Exceeded my wildest expectations ~
Since this book is geared directly towards fans of the Atelier series of games, I won't get into too much detail about the series. Suffice to say, this art book covers the Arland games: Atelier Rorona, Atelier Totori, and Atelier Meruru. Most of the book has been translated into English, though some German remains (I figure this was also the case for the Japanese version). The first thing I noticed is that the book is a nice size: 11.7 x 8.3 and 256 pages. The paper is nicely thick. My only complaint is that the book is paperback. Though the cover is made of a higher grade paper. I definitely foresee some major wear issues, especially since I plan on enjoying this book quite a bit. Also of note: I have been burned by some of the 'design works' books being released lately. Several have been small in size and basically contain a lot of commonly found images or game shots. Not so with this book. Virtually every page has concept and design art. Usually computer finished and 'final' in the sense that it was art used in the game or for promotional material. The other nice aspect is that since we are not in Japan, we did not have access to a lot of the promotional art that is shown in this book. The first portion of the book covers a lot of pre-release and release day art from the three titles. Many are 'release bonuses', likely art that was included in pre-orders from various retailers. It's nice to see these various drawings. Many are 'fan service' style, meaning the female (and in once case, the male) characters are scantily clad and posed in what can be called 'awkward' situations. But others feature characters in regular situations, such as dining out, or just walking along a street in a town. Other pieces were used for posters for the Japanese release. Others were the art used for the game case inserts (cover art) as well as the in game initial start screen. The central section contains individual art bios for each main character. This includes many of the shopkeepers as well. There are typically a few large drawings and then several smaller facial expression drawings. Some of the drawings show costume variations (such as Mimi without her cape). The final section shows a lot of finished concept art for the series. These appear to be art pieces drawn by the team and finished on the computer. Several of these drawings appear in the games after certain events and trophies. This is the most extensive section, and the one I found the most enjoyable. There is a kind of fourth section showing dozens of pen drawings of the initial art mock ups. It's not an extensive section, but there is a lot of content stuffed onto a small number of pages. Mainly we see the initial outline drawings for many of the characters and then filled versions of several.Overall a very nice companion for any fan of the Arland arc of the Atelier series. I am very glad I picked this up. I imagine it will gain collector status very soon. The drawings included are all very welcome. This isn't a boring book filled with screen shots. There is a lot of original and concept art that doesn't appear in the game, and some that does appear briefly as rewards. No fan art either, all of the art is made by the creative team behind these titles. This book exceeded my wildest expectations. And then some.

Lovely Kishida Mel art
I considered buying the other Atelier artbook released by Udon, but I realized I was really just in it for the Kishida Mel eye candy. And boy does this book deliver. A good amount of full page spreads and character portraits including early character sketches. It's interesting to see how the characters age over the course of the 3 games.Edit: After months of perusing through this artbook as it's one of my most frequently browsed books on my shelf(I never get tired of looking at it), I did start to notice typos here and there. Namely incorrect voice actor/actress listings and an obvious mistake labeling Cordelia as Rorona on the last page. It seems the editor copy/pasted one too many times. Careless mistakes that tarnish an otherwise perfect artbook. I really hate typos in printed materials and this is no exception. For that reason, I've lowered my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars. I've noticed only 2 or 3 typos so far, and I do appreciate that they translated the artist notes. Would still highly recommend it for fans of Arland or beautiful art in general. Just thought people should know.

The ship was really fast, it surprised me! I live in Italy and it arrived in only 4 days (sent from Las Vegas if I remember well). The packaging was ok and this artbook is awesome! I love Mel Kishida's style and I played the Atelier of Arland videogames serie, so it was a must buy, and I'm glad I've bought it. (Sorry for my english anyway).

Better then expected
When purchasing this item I really thought it was just going to be some small paperback book but once received it was a whole different story. This is purely an artbook going through character design and the cutscenes of all Atelier Arland games. If you are a fan of the Arland Adventures I cannot recommend this book enough. It's a little bigger then A4 and has some very high quality art work. There is not writing or anything in the book however just pure artwork.

Really beautiful artbook
This will be really short,Very thick, it has 256 pages of gorgeous and beautiful arts from first three Atelier games that were released on Playstation 3.I love the art, the paper is also of nice quality, for me it's perfect. I would recommend it to anyone who loves Atelier or even likes to collect artbooks. The only thing that was disappointing is that it is paperback and not hardcover edition.Other than that it was a well worth the purchase!
