Good, Affordable Tortilla Press
While it’s not as durable as cast iron and heavier than aluminum, it’s a good compromise. I needed a good-quality press that didn’t weigh a lot (arthritic folks live in my home that occasionally hand me kitchen gadgets) and was reasonably priced. Aluminum presses were too easily damaged or warped (or the paint chipped off, apparently), and cast iron was waaaaay too heavy. The reviews with pictures showing broken handles gave me pause, but I took a chance and I’m very glad I did. It’s a solid, well-constructed press. The top lid is heavy enough to begin pressing the masa on its own, but the whole thing is light enough for everyone in the family to easily lift and maneuver it. The handle is sturdy, and I did not sense anything to suggest an unstable handle when I pressed on it. Keeping in mind that many people have broken handles off of cast iron or wooden presses when putting too much pressure on the handle, I made sure to keep a firm pressure and smooth motion, avoiding any sharp cranks or other movements that might cause too much stress on the handle. A whole batch of tortillas and the press did amazingly. I imagine if I continue to be mindful when using it, it will last a long time. One thing: the directions say that one press should result in even tortillas, unless using a flour dough. I found this to be untrue; I needed to spin my masa 180 degrees and re-press to get an even thickness. Not a big deal for me, since I only make tortillas on occasion and I have a small family. I imagine if you used it constantly or had a large family, needing to spin the dough and re-press would get old quickly. But it sure beats rolling them out by hand like I was!I also really appreciated the craftsmanship that went into it; there are indentations/grooves carved into the edge of the lid so you can easily open the press.

Sturdy, not flimsy at all
Not only is it pretty to look at on the counter top, but it does what it's supposed to do, make great tortillas with little effort. It cleans up nicely, too. I did need customer service for one minor thing, and they solved it immediately without delay. So, I can attest to the fact that in the rare event you need customer service, they are there promptly and will resolve whatever it is.

Broke in 2 days
The entire handle ripped out. It is beautiful but if it’s able to break THAT fast, that’s not sturdy. Wish it was a lot more sturdy because I loved the design and how smooth the wood was.

Love it
I don’t have anything else to compare it too but, it works good.My first try was ok. I got better the more I used it. You will need to turn the the tortilla at least 180 degrees as one edge will be slightly thicker.Creaks and groans when pressing but, seems to hold up well. If you put enough pressure on the device you might break it. Moderate steady pressure works best. The wood is beautiful. Nice workmanship
