This is a great tool and I have given it as a present ...
Very informative book! I work in the toy industry and we frequently have to design our own miniature prints. This is a great tool and I have given it as a present as well as buying a copy for myself!

great detailed technological text for a serious student of the newest type of fabric design: digital.
got this book for my daughter who is a RISD-educated designer who has become interested in fabric design because of my own quilting work. She looked at all the options on fabric design and felt this one was by far the best in terms of a "textbook." It goes into serious detail on how to use software to design digital images (images not constrained by the traditional analog printing used in fabrics and denoted by all those color circles on the selvedge) and it's priced like a textbook. It's for the technologically sophisticated, but she thought it was excellent.

A useful introduction to digital printed textile design
This is a useful reference book for textile design students or anyone interested in pursuing textile design using digital methods. There are interesting and informative chapters on textile and fashion designers who have developed digital methods and explanations about printing methods. I would say it is aimed squarely at printed textiles as it concentrates on Photoshop and Illustrator software, and doesn' t cover any of the specialist software for constructed (knitted or woven) textile design. However, the elements of repeat and design layering/assembly could be helpful for knitted textile design development, possibly less for woven textiles although the tutorial on stripe and tartan design might be applicable. The book features tutorials for Photoshop and Illustrator, but these do assume a considerable familiarity with the programmes and are not in very great detail. That is not to say they aren't useful, but do require existing knowledge and understanding. All the design tutorials are for surface pattern, and do not include textural surfaces or construction of the underlying fabric.I have given this a high star rating because it is really good to see a book that discusses a design discipline and informs the reader about its current state and methods but also includes 'how to' tutorials to enable them to develop their own design skills. If you want to go further you will need to collect your own souce material, develop your design aesthetic and of course spend a lot of time practising on the software, but this is a good starting point.

Easy To Understand Instructions
Even though the book is based off of older adobe versions, it is still easy to follow directions and move.
