Q: Is the mat itself a plastic texture (like vinyl) or soft fabric?

It’s a soft fabric with what feels like a cotton insert and in fact holds up really well in the washing machine! I’ve washed it a bunch and the colors don’t bleed and fabric stays soft.

I don’t think this is 1 inch thick. It’s pretty thin, but gets the job done.

Q: how do you wash the pillow?

You throw it in the washing machine. There's an opening where you can pull the pillow out and reinsert it.
