It’s a Bird, it’s a Plane - no, it’s a wonderful new portable air conditioning unit. It looks small but will cool an 1800 sq. foot area. Just kidding. But, it WILL keep you cool under the hot sun. The solar panel needs to have direct exposure to the sun, and will work until you take it out of the sun.

Video Demo: best for a day out and earth friendly fan cap
The media could not be loaded. Best feature I like in this model is that the solar film is on top and not in front of cap like in other similar ones. So it takes sunlight 360 degrees. It worked on a overcast sky for me, which is another cool feature here. The blades are safe and thin. They didn't hurt even if I kept my finger on it by chance. First time use, I was little conscious about the fan before my eye by nature and after few minutes of use, we got used to it. Overall, helps on a hot summer day.

Silly and not working very well...
This one is just a fade.It works, but the fan is totally wrongly positioned and gives practically no, or very very little draft of air to the face, mostly to the nose only...I can not recommend this cap unless looking somewhat ridiculous is your thing...Hugs...

I Modified This Kool Gadget For Much Better Performance! Questionable Customer Service
I really like this hat, despite a small defect that I discussed with customer service. After admitting the defect, they were not helpful (I deducted 1 star) and instead they passed the responsibility back to Amazon(unlike most other suppliers). They also don't return email(I tried twice). Other than that it is a nice item that does send a small but cool breeze when in the sunlight. Being good with electronics I might consider installing a small battery pack with a switch to change to battery power in the absence of sun.Update 07/19/16, I modified the hat by installing a battery pack inside with a switch that changes between solar power & battery power(see photo). So now I get cooling air even in the shade or inside. Also, the solar cell only puts out 1.5 volts to the fan motor(I measured it) and the battery pack using 2AA batteries, puts out 3 volts which turns the fan twice as fast and therefore moves twice as much air for much more cooling effect. In my opinion the motor will handle the extra voltage. The battery pack and switch fit neatly in the inside band within the hat. Now I like this hat much more.

Save your money!!!
Need to have direct sunlight for fan to operate properly. If solar panel is not pointed directly into the sun the fan slows down to almost nothing. If used in the shade, even at high noon on a sunny day, fan doesn't work!!! When fan IS working well the breeze will dry your eyes. A better option would be a hat like this that is battery operated with some kind of speed control.

Sturdy & functional
Sturdy & functional; works as advertised. Two nit-picky (that is to say 'ultra-minor') complaint: the hat part is thick, heavy fabric (contrary to the hat's intent) + the screws that hold the fan seem inappropriate (they do not recess flush with the plastic housing/flange). Those things aside, it made a cool gift...especially once I had an INTERNATIONAL RESCUE patch sewn onto it..!

Not bad at all
Pros: Normal sized brim. Moves decent amount of air in direct sunlight. Light weight and non intrusive wiring. Looks pretty normal compared to the other "solar fan hat" options out there.Cons: Velcro strap - wish it was a stretch fit hat. Its a shallow hat for medium or small heads. The plastic fan cracked at the shaft input but still works fine.Bought this for yard work and going out on the boat. It's pretty awesome. I wish it was in a trucker mesh hat though I will probably reuse the PV panel and fan in a pirate hat or cowboy hat when this one wears out.**update** - Solarific read my review and took the initiative to proactively mail me a replacement fan piece, and one extra just in case without me knowing. I work in customer service and that blows me away - thanks! +1 star

Novel idea, but weak fan power kills it
Was not pleased with this one. I understood from the get-go that the fan would only power on when direct sun was hitting the top of the hat, which was fine - the problem is, the fan has NO wind power to speak of, it may as well not even be spinning. Putting your hand directly in front of it was the only way to even detect a tiny push of air. Add to that the hole for the fan on the brim means you'll be getting sun right in your eyes if facing in that direction. While the novelty is there, the lack of useful function meant I ended up returning it.

Go green beanie.
It of corse works best in bright sunlight. I’ve had models with more power in the fan but they all eventuallly break and this is as close to that one as I can get.
