Works great, but prone to scratching
I usually read on my kindle, for which I have a light in the case, but sometimes I the book I want is only available in "dead tree" format. For those books this is a great tool. I use is regularly.Pro:1) I can read it in bed with the light out. This keeps the light localized, as advertised.2) It is less unwieldy than the flashlight I used before.3) I keep it by me bedstand and it can be used to look for small items I have dropped without turning the light on, as well.Con:1) This is quite prone to scratching. The one I purchased was used and came with several scratches already. while these do not negate the light's usefulness, they show up as annoying white patches on the page2) The size is just slightly smaller than the average hardback book. It lights up the whole page, but the tabs on the edge that serve as page guides only line up on one or the other end of the book. The first might be remedied with something like the screen protector I have for my phone. I believe there is also a case available to hold the light when not in use, but I would prefer not to have to buy something additional for a simple solution like this. It seems the manufacturer might have gone with a more durable material. The second issue is really just a nit. Not important, really.I am not sad that I purchased this item. It serves its purpose well and I'm willing to deal with the slight inconveniences.

THIS thing - I love! Awesome teacher gift!
When I think about things I couldn't do without, my Lightwedge is pretty close to the top of the list! I am an avid reader and plan on holding out from the e-reader craze forever! There is just something about holding onto a book and turning the pages! That leaves the need to read in the dark at night, on the plane, or in the car without disturbing those around you.My Lightwedge fits the bill for all of the above! I used to keep a low light lamp on, but knew it still disturbed my husband after he turned his light off. The little clippy-to-your-book guys never did it for me; I never found one that sufficiently lit up both pages. My husband got this for me as a gift two years ago (guess it was a hint!), and I haven't looked back. Every time I use this on the plane, my neighbor or even the stewardess inevitably ask with wonderment where I got it!The good stuff: Evenly and brightly lights up the whole page. Battery life is great - I read every night for an hour, and only need to replace the battery just every other month or so. Doesn't throw a stitch of light into the room, the car or the plane. It only lights up the page it is resting on. I have the chocolate one which is always the cheapest, and doesn't have any of the strange aura's reported in some other colors. The other stuff: It takes a night or two to get used to moving the light back and forth. Not a big deal, before you know it, you won't even notice this maneuver. After 18 months or so of use, my interior battery clip detached. Still not a big deal, it still works, I just need to clip the battery cover on quickly. Lastly, yes there are scratches on it from constant use, but you don't see them when you are using it.I also purchased a cover, but would recommend you don't waste your money on it. It sits unused, as my Lightwedge also serves as my bookmark.I have given many of these as gifts, they particularly make great teacher gifts (who also usually love to read!), and although the recipients could lie, I don't believe they are when they tell me how much they love it too!

This booklight has flaws.
I really wanted to love this booklight. Pros: It is thin, compact, and if it worked properly it would illuminate the page perfectly. However, there are somethings wrong with it. First of all, the batteries are so difficult to get in and out. You really have to squeeze them in there. It shouldn't be that hard to put batteries in and get them out. Secondly, this book light gets scratched easily. I bought a nice little sleeve for it to keep it from getting damaged, but it still gets scratched. Lastly, the light flickers. On and off and on and off and on and off.....IT IS SO ANNOYING!!! Ive found that if I squeeze the plastic where the batteries are located that sometimes it helps the light stay on strong and bright. But as soon as I let go, the light immediately dims, begins to flicker and sometimes even turns off.I have yet to return anything from Amazon. But I really want to return this item. Unfortunately, I calculated that after paying for return shipping it would not even be worth it.Truly disappointed.

Don't Buy
I'm surprised this has a 3.5 star rating, as this product just isn't good. It doesn't produce much light. It's definitely not enough that you can use it to read in the dark, and used in even a moderately well-lit room you'll notice no difference. I found that I kept taking it away and putting it back just to see if there was any difference at all, or if it just looked different due to the glare from the lens. I think it's the latter, and you'd get the same glare (if for some reason you wanted that) from any piece of Plexiglas. What little it does produce is distributed around the edges of the lens, with the middle being nearly dark. It's supposed to be full-sized, but I find it's still too small for some hardcover books, which is annoying since they opted to put useless little guides on the top and bottom that, for all I can tell, serve no purpose but to annoy you if the book is taller than the lens. The construction quality appears to be shoddy. The lens has a little wiggle to it where it connects to the handle, and if it's not at the perfect angle the light becomes even dimmer or goes off entirely. The battery life is great, but then it doesn't really provide any light at all, so why shouldn't it be? You can just take the battery out and it won't make a difference.

Reading at Night
This light wedge is really great if you want to read and not disturb your husband or partner. It is bright enough that you can read a regular book or magazine but not so bright as to keep the other person awake. I found it to be helpful in reading even when our living room lamps are on because it is more direct light on the page I am reading. Lamps do not always provide enough light for me.
