Great little thermometer!
I have a digital thermometer, but I wanted something cheap that I could leave in the turkey while it cooked. After reading the reviews on this one, I expected that I would have to do a boil test and calibrate it. Mine was accurate out of the box! I’ve posted a photo showing the boil test results, which is showing 204F (which is correct for my elevation in Colorado).I used this for my turkey, and it served my purposes perfectly. The dial is large and easy to read, and there is a little piece that you can slide to the temperature you want. That way, you can quickly see if the needle has is at the temperature you want, without actually having to read the dial.Additionally, if you do need to calibrate it, the mechanism for it looks simple. There is a hex dial on the back that you simply rotate, which allows you to correct the reading of your boil test. After that, it’ll be accurate.

Overall, works as intended - but a quite large dial
This cooking thermometer has all the features you need and a few more. Dial has temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit, from 120F to 212F, marked as a calibration point (thermometer can be mechanically adjusted to 212F). Readings and large pointer are coated with a Glow-In-The-Dark phosphor, and do glow nicely enough to be readable, but do require "pre-charging" in daylight, and, like other items, the persistence of the glow may not be adequate if the ambient light is too bright in the outdoor grilling area. Dial also has a doneness guide for various meats - the guide is printed on the right half of the dial, the temperatures on the left half of the dial. Only downside might be for some that the dial is a bit large, although this makes everything very easily read, especially in dim light.

Easy to use, no batteries required.
The thermometer probe works very well. I did calibrate it first by boiling water in a pot, dipping in the sharp end, and then adjusting the dial to point at the boiling point for water. It is important to keep the water boiling all the time, and to check that the newly set dial will now point correctly and in a stable way.I used it for meats, fish, stews, etc., and the results were consistent. A couple of times, the probe shows that I overheated the food, and sure enough, the final dish was tougher than desirable. If the probe states that the inner temperature is right, then the food is indeed cooked tender.A minor issue (to me) is that I wish that the probe is just a bit longer to make it easier for insertion.

Large easy to read dial and able to be calibrated
I bought the CDN IRM200 ProAccurate Meat/Poultry Oven Thermometer with the Extra Large Glow-in-the-Dark Dial. This has a large, easy to read dial that even I can see with my visually impaired eyes (I'm nowhere near blind - just need increasing prescriptions each year for my vision). It seems very sturdy and well-made, and I like that it's ovenproof and dishwasher safe. This is the type of thermometer that can be left in the meat while cooking, which I prefer, as opposed to the instant read type that can not be left in the oven. It can also be put on a shelf of the oven, rather than in meat, to check if your oven is heating to the correct temperature as well (not to be used under the broiler, though). An important feature is the small hex nut on the back so it can be calibrated for accuracy, so you'll know it's reading correctly. I only just recently learned about calibrating thermometers, and it took me at least 10 tries before I got it right. I found it helpful to move the outside temperature target indicator dial to where it says "boil test" on the thermometer and use it as a visual when turning the nut left or right. I immersed the tip of the thermometer about an inch or two in a pot of boiling water using tongs (be careful not to touch the bottom or sides) and if it went over the boil test I adjusted the hex nut to the right or clockwise, if it went too low I adjusted the nut to the left or counterclockwise. These are miniscule turns, turn it too much and it will go too far. Overall, a great buy!

Junk unfortunately, no precision. Exploded in the oven
Seems like a very useful tool so far. I like the big format (nice to be able to look in the oven without fogged up glasses). I like the movable setting indicator, making it even easier to see if your food is done.10/18/15 update: After using this item for a few months, it still seems to work well, but the glass has become partially fogged and the numbers have faded in color to obscurity. The arrow itself has retained it's original color brightness, but not the numbers. I can still use it by comparing the arrow to the hand setting for the temperature goal, but I originally purchased this thermometer for its overall high visibility, so I'm removing a couple of stars.UPDATE: 7/24/17 - I bought a new one of these after frustration of no longer being able to read the dial. The new one again looks great, but is very inaccurate. Standardizing it to boiling temp may actually make it worse. I now have to use both the old and the new, and find the old more reliable, though I never standardized it. Even if I standardize them to each other (adjusting in the middle of the range rather than at the extreme for boiling water), the new one will not maintain a repeatable reading. Can't recommend. I'm going to a different brand.9/7/19 - update: Thermometer exploded in the oven. Stay away. Removing a star.

Stopped working
I've only used it once. Now it's stuck near the top as seen in the photo. It still rises just a little when I hold it in my hand (body heat). The needle seems flimsy, and I can hear something a bit loose inside. Obviously, if I'd dropped it, it would be my fault but I haven't dropped it, so 1 star.
