My New Favorite Cookware
I rarely watch infomercials but early one morning I turned on my tv and one for the RangeMate was on the channel I was tuned to. It looked so interesting I had to watch it to see what all this grill could do. Not believing that it was as great as the commercial made it out to be, I checked the reviews on Amazon and see that it had lots of high ratings. So I decided to give it a try.The ad says it's a 5 in 1 grill pan but the cookbook only mentions 4 functions: grilling, steaming, baking and cooking. Not sure what the 5th function is but for the 3 that I use (grilling, steaming and baking) it's been so worth the money. This is easy to use and, even though it is hand wash only, its a quick clean up with soap, water and a sponge. The set comes as shown in the photo with the main vessel/grill, a steamer tray, a muffin pan and two lids. I've never used the glass lid. I guess it's for serving (?). The red parts do stay cool for easy handling in and out of the microwave. The white part of the lid does get hot. And there are steam holes in the side of the lid so you need to be aware of the location of those before taking the unit out of the microwave so you don't get a steam burn. I also recommend having the stove vent on and opening the lid away from you so that the steam doesn't hit you in the face. The steamer and muffin trays are both made of silcone. It does take some testing to find out the right time to cook each food type. And the one issue I've found is that the center of the grill pan seems to get hotter than the outer part so I've burnt some things because I didn't rotate them. But once I realized how the pan works I've been able to make great meals.I've made quite a few things in this. The mini omelets do work but take long enough to cook through that it would still be faster to do them on the stove. But if you didn't have a stove (like a dorm room) its good to know that you can make breakfast in it. Steamed vegetables cook in almost no time. I used the muffin tray to make super quick (4 minutes) muffins and cupcakes from those box/bag mixes. No one will be surprised that they didn't come from the oven, but when you want a quick treat, this is a great way to make them with little effort and time. I've also tried the grilled cheese and frozen pizza and both work ok.My favorite function about his Grill Pan is actually the grill. Grilled chicken comes out browned on the outside and super juicy on the inside. Sausages get that wonderful brown and crispy grilled texture on the outside and after cooking them most of the way through I can add some onions and peppers and finish cooking them and the veggies at the same time. My husband's favorite meal in the RangeMate is bacon wrapped hot dogs. The bacon cooks perfectly and doesn't fall off the hotdogs like other methods I've tried. And its a so convenient to grill a piece of meat, steam some veggies and make some corn muffins for a complete dinner in just one pan.Besides the terrific cooking abilities, I like that I'm not using a lot of energy to cook since I can make a whole meal in the microwave. And the only thing I need to clean up is the RangeMate instead of lots of pots, pans, utensils and the stove/oven after cooking.I use my RangeMate several times a week. I love it so much I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

Worth its weight in gold
I originally bought one of these for less on QVC but they no longer offer it. I use mine so frequently and like it so much I was worried I'd not be able to find one anywhere if I needed to replace my current one so bought this as a backup. It does an outstanding job of cooking tuna steaks, chicken breasts, and the like fast, with nice grill marks if that matters to you and virtually no cleanup. I used to saute these things on the stove top and then had a mess of splatters to clean up as well as the pan. With this gadget, all I have to do is wipe out the interior with paper towel, or rinse and then wipe it out depending on what I've cooked. A squirt of oil before adding the protein is all it needs to remain truly nonstick. Sometimes I put vegetables in there too and all is done together. There are other things you can do with the included extras, but I've never used them. Being able to saute my protein without messy cleanup is ideal for me. You can't put this in the dishwasher or even submerge it in water, but that's certainly not a problem as cleanup is ridiculously easy. It's so great to be able to have the microwave cook these things without any attention on my part unless I want grill marks on both sides of the steak. If that matters, I'll take the thing out half way through the cook time and turn the steak over. The metal interior gets very hot and will continue to cook the food after the microwave shuts off, even if you take out the unit and set it on the counter. The rim of the plastic surround is warm but not too hot to touch so you can easily take it out of the microwave after cook time has elapsed. There's another version of this thing that supposedly has a grilling top, but that is ceramic coated and doesn't work very well. It takes way longer to cook and needs preheating and extra attention. It's not nearly as good as this one. This is pricey but worth every penny. I use mine several times every week and have for multiple years and it's still super non stick and effective. The inside of the lid is discolored now and it doesn't have this cool lid handle which allows the lid to be propped up after cooking, but it still works great. It's perfect for one, but can also hold enough for two. Lovely seare, fast, no attention needed after putting it in the microwave, and easy cleanup. One of my most used kitchen helpers.

... to use the muffin feature but everything else is great. I plan to purchase the square type pan ...
I have not had the chance to use the muffin feature but everything else is great. I plan to purchase the square type pan as well. But it does an excellent job on meats and vegetables. Whether grilling or steaming. Would of given five stars if I had gotten around to using the muffin insert, but I am sure I can later on and maybe bump this up to five stars.

& pork chops so far but they all turned out excellent. I bought the big cook book for it ...
Only tried hot dogs, mozzarella sticks, & pork chops so far but they all turned out excellent. I bought the big cook book for it and some of the recipes call for another pan(long pan?) Which is nowhere to be found. The only one I can find on here is apparently a fire hazzard so 1 star off for that.Edit: $100 for the rapid cooker? Oh and I see they sell a 7 piece deal here, wish I would've seen that b4 I bought this.If you buy the big book for this you will not be able to make a lot of the stuff in it because it calls for the long pan or the rapid cooker and this is just disappointing.
