The EC500 is Conductivity/TDS/Temperature Meter. Measures 5 parameters including Conductivity, TDS, Salinity, pH, and Temperature using one electrode. Analog bargraph indicates trends. Memory stores up to 25 labeled readings. Waterproof meter with high-accuracy multi-ranging sensor. Features Auto Power off with disable. Complete with meter and electrode, protective cap, sample cup, four 3V CR-2032 batteries, and 48" (1.2m) neckstrap.

Review: Useful, accurate and easy to use - I use this to do spot water quality tests on the water coming from the private well that feeds my home. For the most part, it's easy to use and is as accurate as any tests I've tried. TDS, Salinity, ph and conductivity are easily determined from a single test sample in under five minutes. Of course, it would be ideal is the unit could also test for additional contaminants (iron, nitrates, chlorine, etc), but for what it offers, this is a great probe that gives you a quick understanding of whether you've had any changes to your water quality. Definitely a good way to get started with water quality testing.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Just to be sure, this will detect salinity fluctuations of coastal marine water (35 ppt)?!**
A: The max salinity for this meter is 9.99g/L  (parts per thousand).  So if you know the water is in the range of 35ppt, you can't make direct measurements.  But, you could dilute the sample (say 10x) in the field using bottled water (has a salinity <<< sample) or DI water and that would put you at 3.5g/L roughly.  You should be able to detect fluctuations at 0.1ppt on the diluted water which translates into detecting 1ppt fluctuations in the water.

**Q: is the Exstick EC500 come with calibration certificate ?**
A: No, it does not, but we can get you a Certificate of Conformance from Extech, when you purchase this product from our Amazon Store.

**Q: how does it give two readings**
A: Salinity in ppm   Conductivity.  And total dissolved solids. I really like this meter. Used it for jar tests this summer

**Q: Can this be used in soil?**
A: Hi This product can not be used in soil.
