This Product Worked Great For Me
This Product Worked Great For Me. Bought A Trailer Home With The Lot Covered With About 500 Square Ft Of Solid Crabgrass. Used The Herbicide Tenacity To Knock Down And Control The Weeds. Used The Seed Stitcher To Prepare The Ground. Learned Real Quick To Make The Ground Very Damp So It Makes Holes With Less Effort. After The Holes Are Made Sprinkled Seed In All The Holes. Then Took Garden Hose, And With A High Flow Of Water Washed The Holes Closed. Estimated I Got Nearly A 98% Stand.

and it seems to work fine. They should have made the spikes metal
I have used it just once, and it seems to work fine. They should have made the spikes metal, instead of plastic, for one of the spikes has bent. The manufacturer stated that you don't have to use straw, just the shredded up dead grass will provide a medium for the grass seed, but what I found is that in the sun, the seeds were drying up, and not growing as well as in a shaded area. I will want to use straw the next time. Also, the stitcher works differently than just putting seed in the ground, so looks pretty sparse for awhile. I just need to be patient. Overall I think this product will be very helpful if it dosen't have any more spikes that bend or break, for digging up earth is a very labor intensive job. I have read some where I can request a replacement for the spikes but not sure at this point how to request this.

Fell apart just over a year
I use this product last year and really thought it was a great idea and worked well to get the grass seed in my ground while breaking up the ground as well. Yesterday I was using it and it fell apart and I lost most of the parts to put it back together. The part with the spikes actually fell off and the parts that held it on all fell out and are somewhere in my lawn. Very disappointed!

The stitcher does a good job preparing the turf for reseedingand I am happy ...
This is a replacement product for the original which arrived broken. This one came missing a bolt necessary to attach the handle and use the stitcher. Rather than go through the hassle of returning another I went to the local hardware store and found a bolt that would work. The stitcher does a good job preparing the turf for reseedingand I am happy with the performance

Get the seed into the soil..
I'm a homeowner with about an acre of lawn area. I've struggled to get a decent lawn established. I've tried seeding for a long time but got mediocre results. The key to getting seed to germinate, I've found, is getting soil on top of the seed so the birds don't feast on it. The Seed Stitcher with some physical effort gets the seed under the soil. It'll take some long effort to cover all the patches needed in this lawn but it'll pay off.

Comes as advertised, a clumsy tool that doesn't best the tried & true. Spade/rake still better.
Although the tool comes as advertised, that is also the problem. It is as clumsy to use as it looks unfortunately. The soil I was patching was semi-hard and the hard plastic tines did break it up with some effort. The axle didn't break as other reviews noted. After some trial with an area that had patchy grass & moss, I decided to go back to the old tried & true method of just working the soil with a spade and smoothing it with a metal rock rake. Gotta say for general gardening nothing beats the rake. After giving it some thought I think this tool's purpose might best be served to work IN the seed after spreading it. Might work the seed in with out moving it around like the rake. The welding job is adequate, but technically very sloppy. I wouldn't want to see the welding bead so poorly applied on a bike or major equipment tool. The nice green paint doesn't prevent rust even after 1st use. Wet soil gets stuck between the tines and turns this tool into a kitchen roller. Soil is tough to work, bottom line, and a spade and rake still servers the purpose better and are more easily stowed. This product works as shown, but it is hard to stow in the garage and doesn't really churn the soil very well. A hoe and rake still work better for seeding. I think I made a mistake with this idea and have decided to return the product. It just is clumsy and isn't the step up over the tried & true rake that it appears to be.
