The exact fit is everything.
This is my second foam ring kit to install. The first one was for a B.A. A-70 and it was a breeze. Much larger woofer than in the A-40...larger flanges to glue to, less opportunity for sloppyness...the ring fit perfectly and it all came out perfect. So I ordered the kit for my pair of A-40s. First thing I notice is that the ring is about 1/8" in diameter too large. Easy enough, just trim it with scissors, so I cut 1/16" all the way around. I was very careful, but it still came out looking like a beaver did it. Then there was the tiny edge of the woofer to glue to. About 3/16" at most. So the glue overran, and the diameter still wasn't quite right, and the more I pushed and prodded the worse it looked.Oh well, none of this will likely affect the sound, so I will just put the fabric cover back on and hope no one ever looks behind it.So I recommend the kits for speakers 7" and larger. But for smaller ones, not so much. Just my experience and skill level.

Made my speakers sound great again!
My dad gave me a pair Boston Acoustics A40 series II speakers since he didn't have a use for them anymore. Upon inspection I discovered that the foam around the woofers had rotted away leading to a rattling sound when the bass hit certain notes.Searching online I discovered this to be a common problem and replacement foams were readily available. The replacement process looked fairly simple (indeed it was even easier than I thought it would be) so I decided that these speakers were well worth the money to repair. The biggest problem I encountered was that many places only sold replacements for the regular A40 not the series II. The foams are not compatible and I didn't want to have to trim them so I was very happy to find these ones made for the series II.I paid a little more here than some other places I saw in order to get the right size, so I was a little shocked when they arrived and still didn't fit. (BTW, they come stacked and not as shown in the picture so don't panic if it looks like you only got one. Just unstack them!) Fortunately, the customer service at Simply Speakers was great and replied to my query within a day saying that the series II has a variant. They mailed me the variant foams at no charge and I didn't even have to go through the hassle of returning the wrong ones.Once installed, the rattle was gone from my bass and the speakers sounded great. It was well worth the $25 to fix them!

NOT AN EASY TASK
I was able to complete the job, and so far the speaker is functioning very well. The repair task turned out to be a bit more time consuming than I'd planned on, but I only had one disturbing problem. In the instructions it says to place down a 1/8 inch bead of glue and then spread it out. The tube of glue that I was given ran almost like water--which caught me by surprise and required me to stop and clean up. To complete the outer edge gluing, I found it necessary to shim out the speaker on the back side--not suggested in the directions. Since this kit likely works for a variety of six inch speakers, this may have been unique to my older Polk speaker. On the positive side, this enabled me to repair my in-wall speaker without having to replace a pair. This not only saved me a lot of money, but also I didn't have to worry about the size of the hole in the wall in replacing them.

Great customer service
Initially they sent the wrong sized foam pieces, but instantly after inquiry they sent the new ones free of charge. Great customer service, they got the right ones shipped pretty much on the day I contacted them. The foam does the job, installation is easy; it just takes some time and patience. They're working fantastic so far on my A40-Series II that I picked up a couple weeks ago. Bass is back to full oomph, the foam seems to be holding in place. I'm giving it 4 stars only because the price is a bit much for a tube of rubber cement and two pieces of thin foam.

Good...
Good solution to a painful problem. The rings were ever so slightly too large so I didnt do an A-job on the repair, maybe a B- but for the price, I'll take it.
