Not for stainless
This would probably be okay for conventional frets. I bought it for my first crowning job and it turned out the frets are stainless. It was hard going, that's for sure. I ended up buying the second-generation Baroque file for $27 and that worked nicely. Other than that, it would be improved tremendously if it had an actual handle, it slips easily and it's hard to keep track of the channel you are using, I had to keep checking over and over. In using the Baroque file, I also realized that the tubular shape helps keep the flat of the file away from the fingerboard which helps, as opposed to the flat sides of this or the third-generation Baroque file. Overall, okay for the price, but don't try to use it on stainless. If you plan on doing more than a very few, I would spend the extra.

The file somehow works but.....
Not sure how I am going to explain if it bad or how good it is. But here it goes. I have two guitars and two basses. I rounded the frets with the Baroque Diamond Guitar Fret Crowning Dressing File. Very good file it work very good cut fast. After doing the frets with the Baroque, I used a tool I created with an old fashion tooth brush to give it its final finished work. I used the 220, 320, 400, 600, 800 sand paper. The frets looks great. But, somehow I was not happy with the strings sound. I ordered this file just to test it. I did all of the fret on my PRS guitar they are Evo Gold. So, I started to cut. This file doesn't cut as fast as the Baroque but it cuts. after doing all frets and using special tool I created to sand the frets down, I tune the guitar and to my amazement the sound was very clean and sustain was also good. So, I did the rest of the instrument. And, I am very happy with their sound. Now, if you have just labeled your frets flat it won't work. Frets must be rounded with a good cutting file first.

Decent
The biggest file section works well for bass frets. Can’t speak for the rest of it.

Great as a fret polisher with sandpaper, Nearly useless as a fret file
I didn't have real high hopes for this fret file for this cheap of a price point. I have other fret files and was mainly going to use it for wrapping some smooth sandpaper around and polishing the frets at the end which it works great for, but as a fret file on its own it's nearly useless...
