BioSpec 985370-14 Tissue-Tearor Homogenizer For 5-1,000 mL Samples, 5,000-35,000 rpm, 120 VAC, 13.2 cm Probe Working Length

I bought this directly from Fisher. To be honest, I'm used to your typical homogenizers that have a blade inside the stator (this is something looking like a flat screwdriver). I tried it to homogenize bone (hard tissue) and retina (soft tissue), neither with much success. Lots of noise, lots of foam, doesn't even tickle the tissue. I had better luck with a plastic pestle for 1.5mL microtubes! A real pity as I really had high hopes that this could help with our samples.

I have had two Tissue Tearers in my lab since 2006. We have used them on thousands of samples. They work great - just as well as homogenizers that cost thousands at Fisher. Even better, though, is the customer service from this company. They are very helpful and responsive. The motor is going on one our Tissue Tearers and the company just offered to fix it with no charge for labor! Also, because the motor is a Dremel tool, it is extremely easy to replace the motor - preventing you from having to buy a new one when it dies (any homogenizer motor would die with the amount of hard use we put them through).
