Thrilling
When Marianne's husband Greg is knocked off his bike and killed on the way to work, she must unpick the life he left behind. Numb with grief, Marianne consoles herself by scouring Greg's laptop, finding comfort in reading his old emails and tracing his footsteps across the web. Until one day, she discovers that he had been accessing the dark web. Why was Greg, a principled charity worker and dedicated husband, logging on to a website that showcases the worst of humanity's cruel impulses and where anything is available for a price? Marianne steels herself and logs on. After tentative searching, she discovers her name on a hit list. In this fast-paced, powerful and exceptionally plotted novel, Marianne must figure out whether Greg was trying to protect her or whether he was complicit in the conspiracy for her murder. As she is pulled deeper into the depths of the underworld that Greg was seemingly hostage to, she gets closer and closer to coming face to face with Sam - the assassin hired to kill her. The dark truths that Marianne uncovers speak volumes about the dark underbelly of our society and forces us to question how far we would go to protect those we care most about. If I am being totally honest I did not think I would enjoy this read. From the premise, I thought it sounded a bit dull...well how wrong was I?! This is so intense and jam packed with twists. Okay, some of them are quite obvious but they all fit with the plot spectacularly and it is always enjoyable to then have a curveball thrown in. Plus, I liked how Seddon set them up so even the more obvious twists were very satisfying. I did find the beginning a little confusing and it took me a while to get in the swing of how Seddon writes this but once I did there was no stopping me and I was completely gripped and holding on for dear life.As well as being a fast paced, punchy thriller, this has a very emotional, sad edge to it. Marianne is grieving for her husband and suddenly suspects her life is in danger, you cannot get much more intense than that! I loved how Seddon balances the mix of danger and emotion. It helps make the read feel more than a thriller and provides a human edge to the read. The plot is great and trust me the characters hold their own too. I also enjoyed how Seddon writes this, we have multiple perspectives and multiple time frames. Both of these aspects ensure the read is fast paced and meant I never lost interest. The different perspectives really turns the plot on its head every time. I cannot stress enough how intoxicating and exhilarating this read was.'The Hit List' is an intense, emotional thriller that really packs a punch. I highly recommend this.

I enjoyed this book for the most part, ending was a bit Anticlimactic.
3 1/2 starsOne year ago Marianne's husband Greg was killed in a hit an run while riding his bike. Marianne is a schoolteacher and Greg worked for an organization that helped woman who are the victims of trafficking. On the anniversary of his death Marianne goes through more of Greg’s items, including his laptop. And it is on his laptop that Marianne finds out that Greg has been on the Darkweb. Why would Greg who has dedicated his life to helping people be on then darkweb? And that is not even the worse of it, while she is searching is actions on the darkweb, Marianne finds her name on a hit list. As Marianne starts to dig more she is horrified on what she finds. This was a very dark story that deals with human trafficking and organ sales. The story is broken up into 3 parts. The first part is told from Marianne’s POV and also Sam, who is the person that is assigned to kill Marianne. The second part is told from Sam’s POV and Greg’s. In this section we get the backstory on the events that lead up to Greg going onto the dark web and how Marianne’s name got on the hit list. The last part of the story is the conclusion that wraps everything up.I enjoyed this book for the most part, but the father we got into the second part of the story I was getting a bit confused on who was who and what was going on with all the info the was coming up. And I did feel that the ending was a bit Anticlimactic.

Wow wow wow, I loved this book. Some people can really write and Holly Seddon is definitely one of them. Having recently read The woman on the bridge, I was very excited for this book and it definitely exceeded my expectations.I loved the way the past was sandwiched between the present and the story that evolved was fascinating. It was also scary to think that this is probably happening some where in the world, right now.I really connected with the characters especially Marrianne and felt her emotions along with her.I've already recommended this book to my sister and my friend at work. Hopefully they'll enjoy it too.

Intense twisty thriller... great plot with emotional backstory... no spoilers
I won’t add to the author’s blurb as it certainly intrigued me enough to purchase the book and I don’t want to give any spoilers. I read a previous book by this author (Try not to Breathe) some time ago which in my opinion wasn’t much of a thriller but an enjoyable book nonetheless. I feel in the Hit List Holly Seddon has definitely written a thriller. Though if you don’t like stories that go backwards and forwards from different characters’ points of view you might struggle... I don’t usually mind them but found I needed to actually absorb the date on the chapters headings to keep things clear in my head. I’d probably recommend reading this thriller in one go if you can and although I read the beginning more slowly, I did stay up late one night to finish it as I didn’t want to put it down! In typical thriller fashion I found that some aspects were a little unbelievable but I don’t need thrillers to be totally plausible, I need them to thrill (without being gruesome), to draw me in with great characters and to ultimately make sense and this does all of that. I loved it!
