Un must have.

Easily the best the series has been thus far
Larry Hama proves to be just what Wolverine needed - he's the ultimate late '80s/early '90s pulp action writer. His Wolverine is a hilarious, badass killer.Hama supposedly never plotted more than a few pages ahead - in his case, this absolutely ends up being a good thing. He starts off with a ridiculous Yakuza super-drug storyline that ends up being his only one set in Madripoor. It's somewhat similar to what has come before, only everything is turned up to 11. There are some great action sequences and side characters. From there we head to Canada to fight the "Hunter in Darkness." Then a trippy time travel story set in Civil War-era Spain featuring Ernest Hemingway. After this, Hama introduces Elsie Dee and Albert, androids that somehow become fully sentient and win your heart over despite their silliness. There are plenty of fun appearances from Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth, Cable, and more. This was really welcome after the previous volumes lacked any major characters. There are also some major revelations about Wolverine's past that excite and intrigue. My only complaint is that as it goes on, Hama's haphazard plotting means that things become very unfocused. The story moves from Wolverine's origins, to a fight against Mojo, to a return to Japan and Mariko. It's a lot to keep up with, and some of it doesn't hit as hard as it could.Marc Silvestri manages to draw the vast majority of it. He bridges the '80s and the '90s with line-soaked goodness. He draws super dynamic and violent fight scenes, but is just as confident with an emotionally effective close-up.Nothing too memorable in the back-up material, but the cover is great. The spine holds up just fine. All-in-all a very solid omnibus. I didn't even mention half of the crazy stuff Hama comes up with.
