SCR331 USB Card Reader T73507

I purchased this card reader to use when I work at home. It works well for Veterans Administration telework. Great product. Shipping was fast. Installation was easy--just plugged it in the USB port on the computer and the small software installation was automatic. I inserted my work smart card and was ready to go. My computer is Windows 8.

This card reader works great with AKO. I have a new CAC card (you can tell if yours is new by looking on the back. Above the magnetic strip there are little orange letters and numbers). The install is kinda tough but that is not because of the card reader. It is installing the Army certificates. There are step by step instructions on the website [...]. I am not a computer person but I did it, so can you.

I bought this for using it with my laptop so I can finish all my online courses. It worked perfectly.The price was the better I could find and the shipping only took a couple days for the free delivery option. Until now never had a problem with it.

The card reader works as it should, with no issues after setup. Be warned, setup is a fairly solid pain, but that's not any fault of the reader. There's no documentation or software with the reader, so search online for setup info for your system. PC setup is fairly well documented, but info for the Mac is sparse, especially OS 10.6. You'll need to update the reader's firmware on a PC either way. I'm using it for OWA in Windows 7 through Bootcamp on my Intel MacBook Pro with no issues, but still haven't had any luck logging into anything in OS X itself.Solidly built unit, light gray color, comes with a nice long USB cable and a built in flip-out stand if you need to elevate the front end to make inserting your card easier. Also has adhesive pads on the bottom for sticking to your monitor or desk.

Been using this from home for several years now. Never had an issue with it. Looks just like the one that is on my work computer too. Wish more reservists would suck it up, pay $15 out of pocket, & make everyones life easier with the ability to digitally sign from home.

I started off trying to use this on a mac. It is not plug and play and you pretty much need to get it hooked up to a windows device to upgrade the firmware. I tried to use this on AKO and Air Force Portal, no dice. I went through the same steps and could not get onto any sites I want to use with a PC either. I definitely do not recommend this product for a mac but I think with a little more effort it would work for a PC. Overall experience, annoyed.

Being in the military it was helpful to be able to use a cac instead of passwords to log into AKO and not having to reset my password every couple of days. This makes my life a lot easier and i have even gotten to use it instead of a password to log onto my computer. very fast and easy to install.

This item comes with no instructions what so ever! There's isn't even a website listed for find driver downloads. I've spent two days trying to find the information to make it work. I can't figure out how to register my CAC. I'm not the greatest at loading computer programs but I've always managed well with instructions. I'm going to try one more day to figure out how to use this then I'm sending back. Prior card readers I've ordered came with a CD ROM which loaded everything. This reader is frustrating and so far a huge waste of my time!!!
