Kind Of Blue

There’s a reason *Kind of Blue* is the ultimate jazz record, but spinning a clean, high-quality pressing of it is a completely different experience. The sense of space on this album is incredible; it literally feels like the band is pushed into the corners of your room. Miles’ trumpet sits dead center, sharp and intimate without ever getting piercing, while Coltrane and Adderley cut through the left and right channels with absolute clarity. The standout for me is the upright bass—it has a deep, woody weight to it that digital versions usually flatten out, and you can actually hear the texture of the fingers on the strings. Even the faint tape hiss from the original 1959 master adds to the atmosphere rather than distracting from it. It’s one of those rare records where you don't just listen to the music, you listen to the room it was recorded in.

Such a great album. Belongs in everyone's jazz collection. This is a particularly nice LP. Get it. Clear sound, no cracks or pops.

ive become extremly jaded at the jazz releases in recent years. how many miles compilations do we need with clever titles like cool miles or love miles or the countless rvg reissues that have been rereleased twice in 10 years, while other music sits in the vaults. but here is a package that i must admit, i could not resist.the coffee table book included is well made loaded with great photos and commentary, all be it ,commentary weve heard a 1000 times[this is assuming that people who havent all ready fell under the spell of this masterpiece arent buying this ].this is probably an insiders purchase, those who have made love with this music setting the mood.those who have sit alone on a rainy day watching the rain pelt the ground[porgy and bess is good for that too]and those who always return to this time and time again, it is the rosetta stone of modern jazz.and i cant seem to shake its spell ,i first heard it 10 years ago, i am now 36 and i of course went head long in to miles's music as well as modern jazz and jazz rock fusion due too jazz, i just wish i would have listened to kind of blue and modern jazz sooner.i feel i wasted the first 26 years of my life listening to meaningless drivel.i remenber the first few times i listened to this, how meloncholy it was, how simmering with a slow burning heat it had . "blue in green" my favorite tune from the album has this desolation, this lonely dark brooding inner looking quality. when miles comes in with that harmon mute, he saying yeah man, i understand. life is tough some times.man that tune cuts you to the core.every composition has its own story to tell,so what, with that mysterious intro and laid back feel , freedie freeloader, with its uptown strut, its happy go lucky approach, all blues with its strolling down the street ,enjoying the sights and sound of a casual walk. and flamenco sketches, also back to that lonely blue in green feeling ,but this time with a little hope sprinkled in, i must tell you personally i have realy felt as is i got my moneys worth, the full size poster, the book, the lp, the 8 by 10 photos, bill evens's hand written liner notes.this is a celebration of the greatest jazz album of all time. and ime glad im able to enjoy this. i highly recommend this to all who have a passion for this album. if you haven't heard it. just buy the cd. discover its greatness. then later on down the road, this will be waiting . [the lp does have a warmer sound than the cd , but make sure you judge it by a good top quality turn table and tone arm, a gold needle would help too, grannies 60 year old high fi with the original needle wont cut it].

Kind of Blue by Miles Davis is an absolute classic and one of the most important jazz records ever made. Beyond the music itself, this 180-gram pressing is excellent. The vinyl feels substantial and well made, and the pressing quality is very clean. Surface noise is minimal, with quiet backgrounds that really let the music breathe. The soundstage is wide and natural, with great separation between instruments and a warmth that suits this album perfectly. Real quick The reason I am not giving this review 5 stars is simply its unclear what the cd comes in, I had no clue if it was going to be a vinyl a cd a cardboard sleeve, and the review photos other people shared were vastly different from one another, which confused me, make it more clear, but amazing album, honestly u could argue it’s the most influential jazz album ever made, absolute legends like John Coltrane, cannonball, along with miles Davis, a huge milestone for jazz as a whole. The album itself easily deserves 5 stars apsolute masterpiece 🙌

Ok, so the old review was for the 30th Anniversary Vinyl, and now we have this 50th Anniversary Box with the Blue Vinyl LP inside with all sorts of problems with 'Noisy sounding pressings, and it seems to be a problem so let me tell you what I encountered with mine. First of all, the music is superlative, you just can't put a price on it and there is a reason people like me keep buying all these Anniversary issues. But this one is way beyond nice, it's beautiful to a fault. I'm actually surprised this didn't list price for $199. The book is Beautiful and the Box is thick and very very high quality. Now to the Blue album. Mine WAS very noisy, pops, clicks you name it. I was initially very peeved off but as I've been buying a lot of 'Newly' pressed vinyl, I've run into this more than you can imagine. And I remembered something from the old Mobile Fidelity Days......in the liner notes for their albums, they told us that they didn't 'de horn' their pressings and that you would probably hear, initially, some clicks, pops, and noise, But give the album around 5-9 plays, clean it between plays, and it should get quieter. Mine did. The other MAJOR thing is Static Electricity. The vinyl they used is VERY prone to Static, which will then give you mucho clicks and pops, it's not the LP, it's the Static. Try using a used Laundry Dryer cloth/pad that makes clothes soft, they often will discharge Static, Just make sure you use one that's been 'through the drying cycle' so the chemicals embedded on it will be dissipated and just very lightly let it touch the surface of the LP while it's turning. That should do the trick. It seems like a lot of trouble for an album but the results are worth it. My Blue vinyl now only has very minor noise in the lead on grooves that dissapears very quickly and the pressing now sounds like a reference disc. Very well mastered and sounds like it should.......the greatest Jazz album released!! Hope this helps. Gerard Masters

First the bad. CD cover came broken and I have replaced it with my spare one wthout claiming replacement since the medium was intact. Bubble wrap would prevent the shipping damage so 2 stars less. SACD is very resolutive and dynamic. Instruments are popping right in front of the speakers with the superb detail and rich texture The scene is defined precisely. Bass is very clean and controlled. Cymbals are crisp with lot of sparkle. Vinyl German reissue in comparison is relaxed and laid back with deep scene. There is less texture but more natural presentation of whole orchestra like listening from the distance. Bass in this case is more prominent. Cymbals are tamed down but more natural. Personally I like both versions. One for critical listening and a another one for the late night pleasure.

Kind of Blue isn't merely an artistic highlight for Miles Davis, it's an album that towers above its peers, a record generally considered as the definitive jazz album, a universally acknowledged standard of excellence. Why does Kind of Blue posses such a mystique? Perhaps because this music never flaunts its genius. It lures listeners in with the slow, luxurious bassline and gentle piano chords of "So What." From that moment on, the record never really changes pace -- each tune has a similar relaxed feel, as the music flows easily. Yet Kind of Blue is more than easy listening. It's the pinnacle of modal jazz -- tonality and solos build from the overall key, not chord changes, giving the music a subtly shifting quality. All of this doesn't quite explain why seasoned jazz fans return to this record even after they've memorized every nuance. They return because this is an exceptional band -- Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb -- one of the greatest in history, playing at the peak of its power. As Evans said in the original liner notes for the record, the band did not play through any of these pieces prior to recording. Davis laid out the themes before the tape rolled, and then the band improvised. The end results were wondrous and still crackle with vitality. Kind of Blue works on many different levels. It can be played as background music, yet it amply rewards close listening. It is advanced music that is extraordinarily enjoyable. It may be a stretch to say that if you don't like Kind of Blue, you don't like jazz -- but it's hard to imagine it as anything other than a cornerstone of any jazz collection.

Sul disco dí per sé non c’è molto da dire. È il disco che ha cambiato il modo di fare Jazz e uno dei dischi più influenti della storia della musica. Puoi sentire le influenze di Kind of Blue praticamente in ogni disco pubblicato dopo. È storia! Questa edizione è di buon pregio. Non la migliore ma sicuramente tra le più godibili Su un po’ tutti gli impianti Hi-Fi. Dai più economici ai più esoterici. Il vinile è dannatamente di buona qualità (180g). Il master usato è estremamente buono… senti la pasta quando lo ascolti! Tutti gli strumenti sono dove devono essere, niente rumore di fondo aggiunto e a calore da vendere! La copertina è fatta di un bel cartone rigido e spesso, dentro trovi il disco infilato in una busta antistatica di buona qualità e le grafiche sono rispettate. In poche parole ha un rapporto qualità/prezzo molto alto. Sono veramente contento di averlo preso, non mi sta facendo rimpiangere il SACD che avevo prima che suonava benissimo ma gli mancava la pasta che ha questo vinile!

Ja, was soll ich sagen... Ein Muss, wenn man mal wieder auf Vinyl umsteigt. Toller Sound, spannende Musik. Klare Empfehlung für alle, die mal eben keinen Einheitsbrei wollen.

Excellent recording! The SACD layer brings out the best in my Denon DVD 1700 NE. It’s as if I was in the recording studio when this was made!
