One fine CD collection
Being an avid Buddy Holly fan from the early 60s, I acquired all his music on LP during the 70s and then all the same songs on cassette during the 80s. That made me a little hesitant to get all the same songs also on CD, when this era came along. I settled for just one of the many "Buddy's Greatest Hits". But it turns out CDs are easier to play - especially since the LPs and cassettes are now in the basement. So this collection is a great answer to my need - to put on one of Buddy's many great songs in the easiest and quickest way that I know (keep your Iphones to yourselves, you hear). The collection is great, the bonus stuff is interesting enough, and the technical quality needs nothing to be desired. Just a very big hit with me!

Buddy Holly 6 classic albums
I grew up with Buddy Holly, or so it seems, I used to listen to them when I was a teen living at home with my mom and dad. As I put these cd's on and sat down and just listened, bringing back old memories of hanging out with school buddies, at our local 19th hole soda shop...........when gas was 17 cents a gallon.......I'm still waiting on The Everly Brothers CD's to come in where I can do the same thing, however they have been out of stock for 2 months.......and I can still remember Ricky Nelson, playing his last gig in Guntersville, AL. before he was killed flying back home, in a plane crash.......God, I must be getting old........and like George Jones, says on one of his albums, "Who's Gonna' Fill Their Shoes". Now who is going to fill George's shoes?

What you get here is...
What you get here is... On Disc 1 is no doubt Buddy Holly's greatest hits in the form of his first two albums "The Chirping Crickets" and "Buddy Holly". Compared this disc to the remastered versions of 2004 - roughly half the tracks sound just as good, the rest are off slightly. 1 track stood out to me as an improvement 'Everyday' has the hand clap overdubs buried. The first half of Disc 2 is his third album called "That'll Be the Day" except the title track is missing - that song is on disc one, but what is missing is the original version that showed up on the original release - this is the Decca single, a different recording that was released on the first album (released by Coral). Also on Disc 2 here is some post Buddy Holly Crickets led by Sonny Curtis, who played guitar on some 1956 Buddy Holly recordings. Sonny Curtis (and the Crickets) wrote and performed the original 'I Fought The Law'. The album included here is pretty good - no it does not compare to classic Buddy Holly.Disc 3 is why you probably will love this box set. Here you get the Fireball overdubs that were missing (in my mind) from the "Memorial Collection". That set duplicated several of the undubbed tracks that are on "Down the Line" also from 2009.Disc 4 is probably straight off of the Purple Chick CDs - no better no worse - I could not hear any difference at all.

The greatness still shines...........................
Time has in no way dimished the brilliance of these recording.I grew up a Beatles fan so naturally one knows the songs of Buddy Holly and of course the 70's recording of Linda Ronstadt bought them back to life.In hearing these recording you hear a kind of clearity you hear in Emmylou Harris a great voice and great songs.Even though time has passed and music has changed. But none of that has affected these great recording and songs. They as Lennon sang stil " shine on like the moon and stars and sun"

Every Family Should Have This...
I got sick of the "Greatest Hits" "Best of" and "Essential" albums that have been put out over the years. I wanted everything and this set offers it. Plenty of songs that could have been hits for anybody else are just album fillers for Buddy. There is even an album of the Crickets after Buddy's death. Skip the greatest hits, best of and essential Buddy Holly albums. ..but this one.

Buddy Holly is still one of the greats
I have a box set on Buddy and most of the albums on CD, but this is a great set six early albums and hits. Some rare tracks with Buddy singing with other artists. The production is great and a must for any Buddy Holly fan even if you have most of his albums. This box set is worth every cent...a must for any collector of early rock or someone who is discovering Buddy for the first time. He was a genius

Globalement je n'ai pas été trop déçu (à part quelques titres) et plusieurs m'ont fait vibrer comme Gary Dale "go boy go" - Honey honey", Jim Robinson "man from texas", Waylong Jenning "my best friend, Carolyn Hester " wreck of the old 97",etc ...
