An internationally recognized artist, the son of a gifted poet, looks back on a hard but artistically rich life grounded in the People's Republic of China. Nicely written and ably translated.For a person wondering why they should be concerned about the lack of expressive freedom in the PRC, this book would be a good starting point for his or her education.Beyond the information gained on the repressive and deadening nature of the PRC, the range of art forms that Ai Weiwei has successfully utilized during his career is impressive. (And, his occasional drawings that help illustrate the text here are wonderful.)
