Handy for planning
Very handy to have in planning a trip to this park as seeing all Capitol Reef has to offer requires a lot of driving around and preplanning.

Be aware: Disney ownership, copyright dates may not be revision dates
Trails Illustrated maps are no longer published by the National Geographic Society. Rather they are published by a business corporation named "National Geographic Partners", which is 73% owned by The Walt Disney Company. Many of the maps have been reprinted with a 2019 copyright date (and a 25% price increase), including this title, but the cartographic data may not have been updated. I collect maps extensively and own dozens of Trails Illustrated maps, and I have found several titles that were reprinted with a new copyright date, but only minor revisions in the text. It seems that Amazon has caught on to this, and is listing the actual revision date. The ISBN cannot be relied on to distinguish editions for maps and atlases, as publishers will often retain the same ISBN even when publishing updated editions.

Great map. Piece of mind
I love these National Geographic maps. I have a number of them and I have never seen better quality maps for parks. Roads, trails, boundaries, elevations, all easily readable to someone who knows how to use a map. Recommended.

Very good maps
I bought eight of these maps for the various National Parks. Very good quality.

Well made but not great for navigation.
Nicely made, lots of information, but the scale is too small - 1:70,000 - the contour lines are so close together in places they're almost useless for navigating, especially since the area is all cliffs and canyons!

Helpful resource
I did hesitate to buy a map a one-time use: I would only visit for a day. But it was better than the free NPS map, and having it ahead of time helped to plan our approach. No, you probably aren't going to navigate the backcountry with these maps. But it is definitely money well-spent.

Great Map for a Great Area
Great Map for a great area. The step-child of the park service shines in the trails of Capitol Reef. This map brings them to life.

Does the job...
I think with all these maps, the topographic information is great, but the scale isn't quite as useful for the average hiker. Definitely needs to be supplemented with detailed walking instructions/maps.

The Only Detailed Map Series I Need
National Geographic does such an excellent job of outlining the trails, roads, and attractions in an area that is unmatched by any other map, map program, or area specific website. The Trails Illustrated maps have become a well known and readily available supplement(even replacement) for area trip planning. The map itself is folded, water resistant and writable. The details include info on topographical, land ownership, borders, landmarks, attractions, roads, trails, hiking paths, and even select GPS coordinates, all of which is cleverly color identified.
