Basher Basics: Space Exploration Paperback – October 15, 2013

I bought the Basher Basics Music, Math, Space Exploration, and Weather books. I didn't like a single one of them. The books all seem to use phrasing that the authors probably think is catchy but actually end up obscuring the meaning of the content they're trying to present. For example, chapter 1 of the music book is "Musical Marvels." These are actually the elements of music (pitch, tempo, rhythm, dynamics, melody, and harmony). But the book never uses that phrase, referring to them as "musical marvels" consistently instead. I think most people like to organize information in their head under headings that are factually correct and broadly recognized by others. If a kid started talking about "musical marvels" in school and the teacher hadn't read this book, s/he would have no idea what the kid was talking about. Another example is the chapter about "Blue Sky Dreamers" in the Weather book; these are more commonly known as weather systems and patterns. I'd be OK with using catchy phrases sometimes, as long as the correct, more widely recognizable labels are also used. In the Math book, why in the world would you call negative numbers "Minus Numbers"? And "Special Sum-Things" to refer to add, subtracts, multiply, divide, and X? Really? These books are trying way too hard. I give two stars for the effort and vision, but the execution is terrible.

The Basher series is great for night-time reading. Each page is a different item, sorted into categories. You can read a few pages, or devour the whole book, either way it works for a good read before bed. The cute descriptions and cartoon images make this a book that's good for a kid who can read to herself or a younger one wanting to be read to. We haven't been disappointed in any of the Basher books yet, this one included!

My son is a huge fan of these books. They teach a lot about their topics in a funny way for kids to understand. They come with a poster for their wall and have so many fun details.

Love Basher books! My son spends hours reading these books, and he's so inspired by the illustrations that he often creates the drawings into little clay figures. These books are wonderful!!!

These books are so fun. My 8 and 10 year olds love them. We have the Space Exploration, Technology and Biology ones and I will definitely be adding to the library since both of my boys have actually read them- a miracle!

My daughter loves her Basher books! She is 8 and these are great books for her. She loves to read new things and these are priced so that we can continue to get her new ones and her that for knowledge is continually being feed.

My grandson, age 10, loves the Basher series is books and soaks up all the information from them with great interest... He even reads them in bed every night before going to sleep...

AVERY GOOD BOOK ON SPACE EXPLORATION FOR SCHOOL KIDS AND ADULTS TOO.
