Stunning color
This color is beautiful. Its just slightly neutral, just a degree off from a bright turquoise. It is smooth to work with, as is most of the Daniel Smith colors. It granulates slightly with water. Overall I was delighted. I own some similar colors and thought I was being excessive when I got this color, but I have no regrets. It will be beautiful for ocean water.

Great quality paint
I swatched out three of the new ones and I’m loving them. The blue especially has some amazing granulation going on. They all create lovely gradations of color, and they all handle beautifully. I can get some amazing blooms when I want to, but with these I tend not to get blooms if I’m not trying. They are easy to handle paints. I find that true of Daniel Smith more than any other brand of watercolor, and here I’m including M. Graham, Senellier, and Winsor and Newton artist grade in the comparison. There are times I want blooms, especially if I’m painting something like water or rocks and want natural, erratic burst of sunlight and texture. Most of the time I don’t want them. I like a paint that can easily give me both options, and I find it with Daniel Smith. The colors are amazing, and the performance of the paint is the absolute best. If I had to stick to only one brand of watercolor for the rest of my life, it wouldn’t even be a decision – Daniel Smith all the way.

A stunning blue - Perfect for veining effects and granulating effects - I love it in galaxies!
The media could not be loaded. Mayan Blue Genuine is one of my favorite blues. It granulates beautifully for some unique effects. Lately, I have been studying how to paint galaxies. I have been experimenting with blues, and I think this Mayan Blue Genuine incorporates perfectly. In my galaxy photo, I circled a pocket of this paint for reference. Based on that pocket of color, you can see where I used the same color for veining effects over a layer or Cerulean Blue.To me, this is one of Daniel Smith’s most stunning colors. I will definitely be buying it again when I run out!
