MrCool Comfort Made Simple A-18-HP-230A Advantage 18,000 BTU 1.5 Ton Ductless Mini-Split Air Conditioner and Heat Pump - 230V/60Hz

I RARELY write reviews, but felt compelled to do so for this purchase. We recently bought some property with two small living areas that we wanted to make more habitable. Being in TX, we needed the AC and a light heat option for the winter. I also wanted to ditch the existing window units in these two areas to open up the windows. Did my research on these mini splits and decided to go ahead and purchase. MRCOOL got good reviews and I couldn't beat the price, so I jumped in and bought two.I would suggest that install requires a tick above your basic "garage knowledge." I was surprised to read the instructions and see that the unit required you to pull a vacuum on the system. All the videos I had watched online either skipped over this step or it's possible other style kits didn't require it (DIY series)?? Regardless, not a huge deal. A vacuum pump and gauges can be rented (for free) from most auto parts stores. You should just need the adapter that goes from the gauges to the MRCOOL system (check the Freon type, the size required to adapt to the gauges, and order accordingly). They're only like $10. If this sounds intimidating, I encourage you to do some Youtube searches. It's really not bad.Otherwise this is the same as hanging a heavy picture on the wall, drilling some holes in the walls, and tightening some fittings. Wiring is another animal. I did mine myself but have some experience. Use your best judgment.Overall the thing I was most impressed with was how quiet the unit was. Both inside and outside. I've used both the heat and cool modes and they work great. It also has the ability to change the fan speed, change or sweep the air direction, and a host of other things.Lastly, coming from a mechanical engineer, I'm pretty impressed with the overall quality of both the condenser and evaporator units. Considering the price, these are top notch and I'm optimistic they're going to have a pretty long lifespan.

I do not recommend this product. Upon purchase of the item, the company was responsive, it sent an email asking to upgrade the item because what I ordered wasn't in stock. I agreed, the goal was to have the unit up and running in August to provide relief from the heat. We installed it once we received the item. It didn't work properly, so we tried to contact Mr. Kool technicians. Nobody returned our call, so we contacted an AC repair company to ensure we installed it correctly. The problem was the circuit board and motor. We had to stick a screw driver in the fan to start it, it would run for a couple minutes and then start smoking. I contacted the company we purchased the product from MRO to let them know the problem. We were told once it was installed we would have to contact Mr. Kool, the product has a warranty on parts. Obviously we tried that, no luck. Bottom line, is now we have to have another unit installed by a AC company. Don't waste your money!!

Very easy to install, the only thing needed to install is a few HVAC tools. 1 vacuum pump with a ac gage unit. Installation only took 3 hours. The cold hot and auto testing took an 1 more hour. System is very quite. The auto system works amazingly. In 25°f out side temperature the heat was wonderful and easily wormed the house to 73° in a very short time.

I ordered this unit from Jack's Tool Shed on Amazon. I contacted the seller prior to the unit shipping to verify whether I needed a pad to place the unit on and contacted them again when my installer had questions about the electrical hookup. I have this installed in a freestanding sun room I use as my home office. I have windows on all four sides and the temperature outside has been near 100 degrees this summer but this Mr. Cool unit has kept my space cool and comfortable. My A/C tech measured the output temperature and said it's lower than most traditional ducted HVAC systems. And it's super quiet.

Easy to install works well. I had an issue after install unrelated to the unit itself and the support people had me fixed in a couple minutes

I just completed setup yesterday and think that overall this is an AMAZING unit, which far exceeded my expectations. I replaced an old condenser unit so luckily the electrical disconnect was already in place where I wanted it.Very straightforward setup and instructions were good. The unit is SUPER quiet both inside and out. was cold instantly. Cooled a 700 sq ft space which consisted of a large great room with a 20ft vaulted ceiling, a small bedroom and bathroom in less than a few hours. (Note the day was super high humidity and over 80 degrees in the evening).

We've used this mini split for one winter and one summer. It has worked very well so far. Keeps our living room and kitchen warm and cool. We have a furnace as backup because when the temperature gets below 25 it has to defrost to often and struggles to work. In the summer, if we keep our bedroom doors open, it cools them also. My husbans said it was easy to install, but he is very talented.

hey guy's great product my customer loved it omg. guys the only down fall is that you need to get the system vacuumed. other then that 240v 20amp breaker, easy- pesy...
