Q: How much current does the coil draw?

coil will draw in the milliamps. Not much compared to the current flow through the relay once closed.

Q: Do they make 30-40 amp relays or only 40-60? i bought the later and they seemed well made.

We used to sell a 30-40 amp relay with this kit but that relay was not waterproof and has been discontinued. The upgraded 40-60 amp relay included in this kit, in our opinion, is a stronger relay and is completely sealed.

Q: Is pin 87a used to send power to a second device?

No, not if I understand your question correctly. When the coil in a relay is inactive--no power on the coil and thus no field created by it, you could flow current through pin 30 and pin 87a; at least they are connected. On an ohm meter you will have zero resistance, i.e. continuity between these two. When the coil is energized pin 30 and 87 are connected and pin 87a is essentially isolated. I have seen 87a referred to as the at-rest terminal. If you have some need or innovative way to use a relay with two positions, one flowing current one way when deenergized (pin 87a) and then flowing current a different way when energized, then 87a could conceivably flow power to a second device but only when the relay is off. The socket panel is just a convenient way to have multiple relay and sockets together in one location. These relays and sockets can be separated or combined to make any length of panel.
