Music reproduction nailed.
I took a long time to justify the cost of the QPR 1. I've spent money in the past on Hi-Fi with mixed results.I listen to my music on headphones these days and the improvement in hand held devices has to my ears been revolutionary over the last few years.I have a Fiio x3 which started the ball rolling for me a couple of years ago. I added a Fiio amplifier and found some in ear buds from Yuin which provided a quite satisfying sound. I was and am listening to my CD collection ripped to Flac files. As always we all look for something better and I saved up and bought the Astell & Kern Jnr. I found this player to be a step up from the Fiio x3 but not hugely better. Both are decent players.Since then I had been researching higher end players from reviews on the internet and feedback on 'Amazon' and wondering if things could really get that much better than what I had to justify the outlay. If you have read this far you are probably just like me looking for that difference, that little bit more pleasure from our favourite songs and albums.Anyway enough waffle I found the QPR 1 from searches and looked for every review and piece of information I could find and I can't remember reading a negative review about this player from a sound reproduction aspect. So, I watched for a deal on price and found one for £500 from AP Players in Edinburgh listed on Amazon and bought it.That was a month ago. Now I can report my findings because I generally spend about two hours a day listening to it.This is an excellent music player. I don't have any other files except my ripped CD's to Flac. I used to have them all in Windows Media Audio but I am totally converted to lossless now.The QPR 1 is a real pleasure to listen to. I find myself often totally immersed in the detail and musicality of this player. My best listen is on a pair of 325 Grados which I have owned for over 10 years and I think for the first time this player has made them sing. The Grados are open backed and great when I'm alone but they do leak music. I have a pair of Sennheiser Momentums which are closed back and I listen to these when my wife is watching TV and I'm into my music.I also still use the Yuin earbuds I have the PK 1 that are not cheap but are very comfortable and produce a great sound. To conclude I thoroughly recommend this player if you are serious about music reproduction, it isn't cheap but it is very good. I have no idea what more expensive players would sound like, but they would have to be something extraordinary to better this one. Please link up to a decent pair of earphones, I enjoy this player with all my earphone options and an investment in a player like this deserves some decent ear candy.

Wonderful sound
I cannot comment on how the QP1R compares with other players as I have not listened to them. I can say that anything else would have to be astounding to be noticeably better. Wonderful sound, a user interface that is logical (if not that modern in approach) and a build quality that seems to be very robust. Bought mine from Purist.dk at an excellent price compared with UK suppliers. The delivery time was surprisingly short. A quality product from a professional supplier.

Suono stellare, interfaccia spartana

The little DAP that could.
Well I bought the Astell & Kern AK380 thinking it would be a step up from my AK240 and I was so disappointed that I ended up returning it. Thank goodness for good return protocols.I read a few reviews of this, couldn't demo in the UK and took a chance.Goodness me, it blows all my other DAPS out of the water in terms of sound quality. You do not need an external portable amp with thislittle fellow. It sounds absolutely gorgeous and yes I will use the cliche that I am hearing stuff I have not heard before even on favourite albums.I mainly play FLAC files of my CD collection so 16 bit 44 khz with some HD albums and with good headphones I have not heard better from any DAP.I say headphones rather than iem as it can drive most phones with ease as it operates in class A and has three gain settings.Battery life at 10 hours is comparable to all except the Sony ZX2 which has fantastic battery life but correspondingly low output so won't drive your headphones.Though I have Layla iems I much prefer listening with my Audeze LCD X and the synergy between the phones and the player is excellent.Operationally it is not perfect with the silly wheel but most of the other UI shortcomings can be fixed by firmware updates.I seriously love the little player so much I could kiss it.
