## Overview

The Morakniv 120 Wood Carving Knife features a 3.25-inch high carbon steel blade with a tapered edge, paired with an ergonomic, oiled Scandinavian birch handle. Its full tang construction ensures exceptional strength and balance, making it a versatile and durable tool for woodworking, whittling, and carving. Lightweight and portable, this knife is designed for both beginners and experienced craftspeople seeking precision and comfort in every cut.

## Description

This alternative woodcarving knife is a great option for those who want to start carving. It's also easy to re-sharpen, so you can experience enjoyable carving over and over again. With a barrel-shaped oiled Scandinavian birch wood handle and an approximately 0.1 inch thick, tapered carbon steel blade, you can take your creativity to new levels. The full tang, which runs the full length of the handle, provides superior strength and stability with every cut. The barrel-shaped birch wood handle gives you the option to shape it as you want it. The knife should always be in the protective sheath when not in use, partly to minimize the risk of injury but also to maintain sharpness. Carbon steel will rust, so wipe and oil the blade after use. Highly regarded around the world, our characteristic woodcarving knives are used by skilled craftspeople like those in Nusnäs, where one of Sweden’s most famous national symbols, the Dala horse, is made.

Review: Morakniv's Wood Carving Knife 120, made with carbon steel, is a knife of exceptional quality. - The Morakniv Wood Carving Knife 120, constructed from carbon steel, is an excellent high-quality knife for wood carving. Since I found Mora knives on desertcart in 2021, I have purchased over a dozen for bush crafting, wood carving, and kitchen use. They are located in my camper, sling bags, backpacks, and cars. These knives are of very high quality and are affordably priced. This knife is no exception; it remains sharp for an extended period while working with various types of wood. The birch handle is not only attractive but also comfortable for prolonged use. It arrived extremely sharp, so caution is advised, and it features a high-quality logo, made in Sweden, which I appreciate. I take good care of my knives by stropping them several times, depending on the duration of my projects. I primarily use this knife for final polishing work, and it does an outstanding job. I am very satisfied and may consider adding more Mora knives soon, as I find them affordable and competitive with knives that cost twice as much.
Review: Stays sharp! - In love!!!! I received a few carving knives for Xmas. This one is my go to. It's a Sloyd knife. Great for all purpose carving. It takes off decent size chunks of material as well as doing a bit finer work. Blade holds it's sharpness well. Handle fits comfortably in hand. My only negative is the sheath. The knife either "sticks" or falls out. I'm going to make a knife pouch tho, so it's no biggie. Ended up buying my husband one so we can carve together. Great price point. I would recommend this knife as a great intro to carving but also a decent knife for more advanced carvers.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this knife good for whittling?**
A: This is a great knife for whittling. In my opinion it is the best of all of my knives. Some like the Mora 106 as it is a bigger blade. I think the 106 is ok for roughing out your piece but the 120 can handle that and it is small enough to handle most of the detail carving you will likely do. It comes razer sharp and it is easy to keep sharp if you use a leather strop with some compound. The blade is beveled on one side only which is precisely what you need for carving. A double beveled knife, and Mora makes a couple, is not as well suited. I did collect a few scars getting used to using it. Did I say it comes sharp? Buy it and enjoy your carving like never before.

**Q: Isn't that kind of a really long sheath for that knife? The blade looks very short and the sheath rather long.**
A: Yes the sheath is too long for this blade: it is a generic sheath that Mora uses and many reviewers point to the sheath as the only weak point about the knife package. It DOES retain even this short knife well enough to carry. AS TO BLADE LENGTH: this is a favorite length and shape for Bushcrafters who are also carvers or who want to skin small game or to serve as a paring knife in camp: check out SWEDWOODS on YouTube for a convincing demonstration of what this knife can do in the hands of an outdoorsman.

**Q: my husband is just starting whittling. is this knife enough by itself for most beggining projects**
A: Depends what he's trying to carve. This is a great place to start as a general carving knife. Forks, spoons, handles for various tools can be done with just this knife. Although, when carving spoons, having a curved knife makes the process a lot easier. You can get one for a similar price as this knife. I recommend not getting the double sided blade but one for a righty or lefty. If he is wanting to do more intricate carving like faces for example, he would eventually want more blade varieties. All that said, this knife is a cheap way of finding out if he likes the hobby enough to continue to invest in it. Do him an extra favor and buy him some carving gloves. They're an absolute imperative. Ask any carver how many times they have cut themselves when not taking the extra three seconds to put gloves on when working on a project.

**Q: What does the limited warranty cover? I was widdling a spoon out of walnut and the tip broke off. Just a small piece but still.**
A: This is the reply from Mora. I would say that would be covered under warranty, we would need photo of damaged knife. It's good to have the knife returned for replacement. Let me know how you want to proceed

This is probably the best value wood carving knife to begin with. Great handle size and blade length and definitely a step up from the basic beavercraft ones. Comes super sharp and ready to go.
