It's loud and the flashes are eye catching. Definitely works well and would make you feel so much safer just having one with you. My only complaint is the color. I had ordered the green one to gift a friend because she loves dark foresty-green, but when it arrived it was more of a light mint green. Still usable and ok, but was quite disappointed it didn't look anything like the color shown in the picture.

The idea behind this device is excellent. But, I am less than impressed with the volume of the alarm. 130 decibels is supposed to be equivalent to "the loudest rock concert ever" or "a jackhammer." This isn't anywhere near that. It will probably still startle someone who isn't expecting it, and combined with the flashing light in their eyes, it will probably give you a second or two head-start to run away or to pull out your pepper spray.

Byrna makes good products and my buddy turned me onto this little "screech machine". You pull the ringed cap off and it instantly alarms quite loudly. I was expecting it to be louder honestly so that's my only downside. But it still hurts your ears and it will startle the daylights out of anyone. Gave it to my wife and she has it attached to her purse with the included carabiner. Now if she senses trouble she can pull it with a simple move and it will start screaming. Good first line of self defense.

just as soon as a "return window" expires, this thing continuously goes off without being pulled! bump it the wrong way, it goes off! the "key" that pulls out, does not stay in the housing tightly! would almost bet this was someone else's return! can't send it back in because the window has closed.... worthless junk!
