THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
The build of the unit is pretty basic, and really does a good job putting out smoke. But there are some things you should know when buying that I found out after unboxing and first use.1. When Romondes is offering a free gift or two with the purchase of the unit, you will have to click the link for other Applicable Promotion(s) because free gifts are not automatically included unless you add them to the cart. I spoke with Romondes because I didn't "add to cart" and they were able to send me the free items after discussing how the terminology of saying they were included and the manually having to add them to the cart, was a bit misleading. The customer service was pretty easy to work with through Amazon and advised that they would change some of the wording to make it more clear. I don't know if they will, but it's cool that they would look so far into a suggestion.2. Oil tank oil level is a little hard to view. The instructions say to not overfill, but the oil level is hard to view through the eyelet. So you do not know what level you actually are at when filling. There is nothing mentioned in the instruction book about tank capacity, and when it gets low the eyelet will show the oil bubbling witch makes it harder to read. I would like to see a bigger reservoir level for the next thing to know.3. If you are looking at this tool, it means you are somewhat more mechanically inclined. So when I was looking at this tool, I read some of the negatives as well. Most said it was junk and stopped working after 30 mins. Well, mine did the same. But, what I found was, when I started the smoking process I was moving around to different areas doing a process of elimination. In moving around, I turned the flow to off and left the unit on. The oil smoke has a smell to it, kind of sort of like burning plastic. When I was ready to turn my flow back on, there was no smoke and I noticed oil leaking from the bottom of the unit and below where it was hanging under the hood. I was limited on time to finish my project, so I opened up the unit and noticed that the plastic hose that runs from the oil/heater tank to the flow meter had melted and was leaking the oil in the tank. I don't know if this is because I left it on while changing positions and taking too long, or if it ran out of oil, or if it was just a defect. But like I said, if you are using this machine you are capable of fixing it. The pressure fitting on the tank is where it melted and was leaking. THE TANK IS HOT, so let it cool down or it will burn your fingerprints off. Once cooled, the pressure fitting is threaded, so unscrew it and remove the burnt end. Make an even cut on the unburnt hose saving as much as you can. Reattach the end into the fitting and magically it works again. Mine tilted the flow meter slightly backwards due to the reduction of hose, but seemed to work fine. I may try to find a high temp hose for a permanent fix and extend it, but it worked fine for me after the fix and I kept a closer eye on the oil and turned off between different test points.Would I buy it again, yes. I think it works great, but I would've had a better experience knowing before what I know now. I hope this helps.

Product works great!!!!
The product worked well for EVAP system testing. It has a .5Lb regulator and it kept that pressure through out the entire test. My concern was that it would rise above the 1 to 2 lb. threshold of the EVAP system. It did not especially during my retest to insure I fixed the leak. Flow gage worked flawlessly and corresponded accurately as to the size leak I had. It heats up fast, produces plenty of smoke, and is ready to use in seconds. It even helped me find an intake leak on my EVO Harley that we could not find and prove we had using the traditional carb cleaner method of spraying and listening for engine fluctuation. Overall I like and would recommend the product for any DIY'er. Did not receive the additional battery tester and cap with the initial order but after contacting customer service the situation was corrected..

Burned up after the 7th time using
After only the 7th time using the unit started smoking (no pun intended) from the inside and within seconds I heard a sound like a fuse burning on cartoon dynamite. I opened it up to evaluat and found the switch and several wires burned. The heating unit also looked torched.

Great tool at a reasonable price.
Very simple to use. I've always wanted a smoke machine but couldn't justify the cost, until now. Puts out more raw mineral oil than I would expect but works well.

Great unit and great seller
I ordered this smoke machine because I have a 1993 Corvette that is of an age where the various seals, hoses, fittings, etc. are prone to leakage. In cars of that vintage, the effect of leaks is noticeable but finding the leaks is challenging. A smoke machine is far better for diagnosis that relying on what codes flash on the dashboard MIL lamp or on the limited OBDI 1 data might offer as diagnosis. So, this machine is ideally suited to my needs. It is well made and works exactly as it should. Not only am I very pleased with this machine, the seller has been amazing! He's send me messages, preemptively, to offer hints and tips on the use of the machine along with advice on the type of oil to use in it. Very nice to see a seller interested in the customer's success with the product he sells.

Things you should know.........
Gave it a 5 star review being it worked flawlessly.Something's you should know though.....1.The plastic air flow meter/valve has no support. If it gets bumped hard enough it will break.2. There is nothing stating what the max inlet air pressure is. I put a regular on mine to regulate the pressure down to 30psi from 150psi.3. With extended use the machine will become very hot, even the hook will burn you.I used mine for 5 minutes at a time but you may have to go longer depending on how hard a leak is to find.4. There are no parts available.Once turned on it makes smoke very quickly, within about 10-15 seconds.Small and lightweight.I recommend getting extra accessories for it to plug off various lines and vacuum ports. You can use food grade mineral oil or baby oil.I have only used mine once and it worked flawlessly.

Safety cutoff did not work
Burnt hand on it and cap melted off. Probably needs safety system checking. company sent another quickly, however when looking at original one I cannot see the safety cutoff they mention. good service however so changed to 3 stars

Great for finding EVAP leaks in vehicles!
I had a OBD2 code of P0455 in my 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe but wasn't sure where the EVAP leak was. Hooked this baby up and almost immediately started seeing smoke coming from the gas cap. Cap seemed good but was definitely not a good seal as it turned out. Bought new OEM gas cap on Amazon and replaced my old cap. Reset OBD2 code and light has been off ever since and finally got my car NYS inspected. Passed with flying colors....Woo-Hoo!!!!
