Awesome Version of the Album
This first Emperor has always been a grand favorite black metal album of mine. To purchase a specially packaged version of this monumental masterpiece felt awesome. This version of the album is a digibook, with two discs inside, a long booklet built into it, containing old pictures of the band, a short interview, lyrics. Artwork can be found all over the digibook, both inside the built-in booklet and everywhere else. It certainly isn't a dull, plain looking album by any means. The front cover looks better than ever; a heavily detailed illustration of mountains, the night-skies, forests, nocturnal spirits, and castles. This is one of Necrolord's famous album covers, and one of his best!Having the album in the form of a "book" makes it look more special than if it came in an ordinary glass case with a separate booklet. This digibook version of the album is nicely and neatly organized, holds together perfectly well, and the quality of the songs on the CDs is flawless. This is an album for those who enjoy the classic second wave of Scandinavian Black Metal that emerged in the '90s. This is the archetypal representation of symphonic black metal. The songs are layered with atmospheric guitar and keyboard melodies, with Ihsahn's vocals screeching amidst the highly developed instrumentation. This is some of the most powerful and most creative black metal songwriting. It's not the typical lo-fi, raw black metal with poor production quality, with only two riffs per song, and artwork only consisting of pentagrams and inverted crosses. Emperor is not overtly satanic on the surface. They wrote music and lyrics differently (still satanic in some cases), which is what makes this album a classic.Overall this is an excellent album, and this version of the album is splendid. Purchase it if you want a unique version of a old school black metal album.

If you're an Emperor fan a special edition is reason enough for you to blow your money on an album you likely already own
This is more or less the second time I've bought this album. The first time was a reissue that I also have ripped on itunes. Playing each song back to back there's a noticeable difference in sound quality. I'd consider Emperor one of the best produced Norwegian black metal around during its time so I was a little skeptical about how the sound quality of "In the Nightside Eclipse" could have been improved. There's an interview included in the booklet from Decibel Magazine from December 2005 celebrating the the 10th anniversary of the album. The second disc is a little bit of a waste. Its just outtakes and alternative takes from the original recording. Only the most hardcore fans would be interested. I just wish they had added and remastered material from their previous demos instead. But it does contain the entire "As the Shadows Rise" EP on the first disc which is a treat as I hadn't heard anything from that before.

In the Nightside Eclipse
My only real gripe is that this pressing doesnโt include the bonus tracks featured on the anniversary edition CD. But thatโs like the only thing I could complain about and it doesnโt really bother me. This vinyl edition is excellent. The packaging and artwork has never looked better and the sound...itโs Emperor on vinyl...it sounds incredible. Speedy delivery too. If you like black metal, I donโt really need to tell you about the album except that you need it in your collection pronto

I have always loved the music and own the original CD release
This review is for the quality of the remaster, not the music itself. I have always loved the music and own the original CD release, the first remaster, and this remaster. I understand the music production was never intended to sound that great. I'm an old-school black metal guy. But with every re-master that comes out, I keep hoping that maybe I can hear Faust's bass drum better, as they're almost completely hidden in every master and re-master. With this release, I feel like you can hear them slightly better, but not much. The bonus tracks and second CD is cool. I think if you're looking for even the slightest upgrade in sound quality, you probably don't necessarily need this, but the packaging is cool and the extra material is a bonus.

Better sound quality than the original cd
The original recording was pretty good quality - but this remastering brings a definite improvement of clarity and punch to an already respected and hailed as a classic Black Metal album. The bonus stuff is ok and the booklet is very informative - and as it's on Amazon at bargain price through certain sellers this edition should be in every BM fan's collection.

Don't miss this beautiful edition!
Fans of Emperor and Ihashn must have this great classic album, and now that it is remastered it sounds even better. Comes in a great digibook that contains interview with the band and the lyrics and some amazing photos.
