Great sounding mic- my drums finally have life
I'm a drummer and bought this to experiment with a new live micing method I had read online. I have always had trouble getting the right amplified sound when putting a single mic on every drum, plus it takes a long time to set up such a system. I read an expert's review who STARTS with a pair of good overhead condensers to capture the natural sound coming off the entire kit from the drummer's perspective, then supplements that with individual kick, snare and any other needed mics. I figured it sounded logical and was worth a try. On my first setup with this method WOW! These mics are crisp, clear and faithfully represent the audible spectrum and natural sound of my kit. They capture and reproduce my toms, snare and cymbals with near studio quality. After setting up and sending feeds to my sound guy he took one trip out front while I gave an initial sound check and came back onstage with eyes open and a grin on his face saying "man, I love those mics you got, they sound great out there." In fairness it should be noted that prior to getting these "middle of the road" mics (according to AKG promotional materials), I had been using a cheap pencil condenser from Shure that required a battery. So 'one mans' floor is another's ceiling' perhaps but regardless, they sound great to us and I am happy with how I sound. I also like the flexibility of these mics to use phantom power when available or batteries when not. They have additional adjustments to the sound based on the use and desired effect which I haven't even experimented with yet. I can't speak to longevity or durability because I have used them just once but I chose this model partly because of its reported toughness for travel and live use and its affordability. Hopefully they last a long time but if not at least I am not out a fortune. I was NOT compensated for this review and I hope it helps someone make a decision.

Great voiceover mic -- no kidding!
We're using this mic with an additional pop filter (which is standard practice) for voiceover work. As another reviewer mentioned, it has an SM7-like quality to it. This is interesting as, according to the AKG blurb, this mic isn't especially recommended for voiceover work. I think that's because of its sensitivity to plosives (pops on 'p' and 'b' and so on) which can easily be address by the additional pop filter. We like it because it offers a small end address cross section area (akin to that of the Electrovoice RE20 dynamic mic) compared to large diaphragm condenser mics for voice work, which makes it a lot easier to manage script placement and so on in smaller work areas. Also, we have found the presence boost adapter (for increasing the intelligibility of speech a real advantage. So here we have a mic that AKG themselves do not specifically recommend for voiceover work coming with the gubbins to make that happen and happen well. There is also an adaptor to adjust the pickup patter to hyper cardioid which would be great where feedback was an issue. I don't know what the other reviewer was doing when he/she said they had problems with feedback, because this mic is perfectly designed to deal with that. And apart from everything else, it just looks good. Nicely shaped foam pop/wind filter.

Amazing mic for Smule
I bought this for singing on smule. It works amazing the battery power is what sold it for me. The quality of recording is so much better. The battery last forever. The switches under the cover are super helpful for singing different styles. I would have paid $200 for this

AKG, no Chinese pieces
THIS is not a top of the line AKG, hence the price. HOWEVER it performs with true German quality and simply sounds better than the Chinese mics at much higher prices. There is a difference. I would choose the lower end "Made in Germany" over the so called better specs of the more expensive Chinese mics anytime. I have high end AKG and needed to add one small diaphragm for a one time project so wanted to keep the price down. I am not disappointed. AKG came thru with flying colors.
