Worth owning, but not fantastic
Ministry of Sound has a long history of producing sold collections of club, dance, and chill music. This album is their club offering for 2001. I'm more of a fan of their "Chilled 1991-2008," collection, but wanted to give this album a try.Basically it is not a bad collection, but most of the tracks are not really that moving. Like others have noted, the first CD is a lot better than the second, but even the first isn't more than 3.5/5 stars. If you're really into club music, or just love Ministry of Sound this might be worth picking up. Otherwise take pass.

Ministry Of Sound: Club Nation America
Ministry Of Sound: Club Nation AmericaI cannot explain how much I love Ministry Of Sound. They always release the best mixes, mixed by some of the best DJ's in the world. When I purchased this CD, I was very suprised. I had heard another mix that Tall Paul had done for MOS (The Annual 2000-CD), and though that his mix would be the better of the two CD's. I was extremely suprised that I was wrong.Being that I gave a horrible review of CD 2, which is half of what your buying, your probaly wondering why this CD received 4 stars. Johnny Vicious mix was amazing, and could have easily been released alone. The track selection is wonderfull, and it's long enough for a party. But this CD for the Johnny Vicious mix, you wont be sorry.Johnny Vicious is well known DJ, especially in the NYC area. He has his own mix show every saturday nights on New Yorks WKTU and has residency at various clubs. Ministry of Sound wisely picked Johnny to mix this CD. The mix starts with Delerium's "Silence," which is a trance anthem. Other tracks include Aurora's version of the Duran Duran classic "Ordinary World," Sureals "You Take My Breath Away," and Johnny Vicious amazing (but bootleg) remix of Dido's "Here With Me" (which is over 10:00 long). The mix ends with Svenson & Gielen's (AKA Airscape) "Beauty Of Silence." What I love about this mix is that it starts with strong trance and ends with strong trance. There are not weak spots.CD 2- Mixed by Tall PaulThis mix is terrible!!! Ministry of Sound has to tell Tall Paul to go in another direction with this mix because this is unlike anything else I have every heard from him. He usually starts with Disco sounding house and builds up to nice melodic trance, but this CD features neither. Instead, it features boring and bland house and trance. When purchasing this CD, I noticed that Moby's "Southside" was featured. This mix doesn't even feature Gwen Stefani. I mean I know that the Southside featuring Gwen Stefani is already a remix, but who wants to hear Moby just speaking. However, even though this mix is terrible, there are a few hot pics. Simon's "Free At Last" features words from Dr. Martin Luther King's famous "I Have A Dream Speak." Even though it is one of the highlights, It still sounds plain. I was dissapointed to find out that the Paul Van Dyk remix of the Thrillseekers "Synaesthesia" is not a vocal mix. But nevertheless, it is still breathtaking. The last highlight from this mix is Push's "Strange World." It's a pretty cool track, but the melody is very repetitive.PS- Johnny isn't only a DJ, he's one of the hottest remixers currently on the hard house/trance scene. Check out his mixes of Veronica's "Im In Love,"* Chicane's "Don't Give Up,"** and Mary Griffin's "Perfect Moment."*** CD 1- Mixed By Johnny Vicious*- Available on Veronica- Im In Love (Maxi Single) **- Available on Chicane- Saltwater (Maxi Single) ***- Available on Mary Griffin- Perfect Moment (Maxi Single)

Disc 2 is where it shines
Disc 1, mixed by Johnny Vicious, is the weaker of the two. It starts with three really strong trance songs, then gets into a glut of cheesy, anthemic trance. Seriously, he makes Oakenfold sound like Digweed, "Los Angeles" era...It's mixed extremely well, very smooth transitions. If you're a fan of the genre, it'll be your cup of tea; if not, then it's up to Tall Paul.TP delivers a very diverse mix of trance, house, and breaks. He includes the UNSTOPPABLE "I Wanna Be U" by Chocolate Puma (this track is blowing UP!!!), "Star 69" by Fatboy Slim (which works really well in this set), and others. Tall Paul is the highlight of the album.Overall, it's a great disc, especially if you can find it for under $15. Johnny Vicious may not be right for you, but Tall Paul will seal the deal for ya...

I loved the first disc, the 2nd disc could have been better
I wasn't too impressed with what I've heard with the second disc mixed by Tall Paul. It wasn't bad but it wasn't nowhere near the awesomeness of the first disc mixed by Johnny Vicious. The songs lacked the punch that Johnny's mixes had. Now that is said and done, on with my review of the first disc. The second I heard the Dj Tiesto remix of Delerium's "Silence", I knew immediately this cd was going to (be a hit). The production is big, the melodies are excellent. The song structure hasn't been distorted by Johnny's mixing abilities. I liked what I heard. Several minutes later, "Silence" quickly becomes "We Are Alive", my favorite Paul Van Dyk song off his "Out There and Back" cd. I do wish that Johnny used the full vocal mix version of this song but nonetheless I'm happy to hear this song. I was totally surprised to hear a dance version of Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" w/female vocals. That really knocked my socks off. I also loved the trance version of "Here With Me". This first disc in Club Nation America was impressive and made me think of the Saturday nights I spent in Chicago dancing to house and trance music. Just awesome.

Tall Paul reaches up and pulls down the 5th star
I bought this cd for Tall Pall. I have heard him live and was very impressed. I was very happy to see his name on this cd but that all went away soon after I played it on the way back from the store. The best way to describe it is DULL. Nothing good about it at all, nothing different, nothing that says worth the money. CD 1 saved the day. Great mix, fast tempo, not a DULL moment. If you buy this put in disc 1 right away. I had only heard of Johnny Vicious in passing before this CD but you can bet I'll be going to his next local event after hearing this. 4 stars for this CD alone.Save cd2 for when you have time to kill and can't sleep, you'll sleep like a baby after this one.
