Bernzomatic19425 JT850 Self-Igniting 20,000 BTU Outdoor Torch

Bought in the summer to get rid of weeds in our patio and walkway. Easy to use and works great. Best price we could find at the time.

I have several tools in my arsenal to defeat the dreaded "weed", hahaha. My property is mostly dryscape. This winter brought a ton of rain in Southern California. A lot of grass/weeds popped up in my DG and rock gardens. I have continually struggled with getting rid of the weeds in a safe, efficient, and low impact on my back way. So I needed to find a different solution.The first time I used the torch I did have a little trouble getting used to it because it's hard to see the flame so you don't always know where the torch is aiming. Also takes a bit to figure out the best setting for how much gas to give it so it stays lit but doesn't have too big of a flame. After a couple test drives I quickly figured out how to harness it's power and easily direct the torch to where I want it to go. And for sure...It works AMAZINGLY!! Instant gratification! No more waiting for dangerous weed killer to work. No more bending over to pull or using other tools to rake out weeds.This thing is perfect for Rock gardens, DG, or paved hard surfaces that are a safe distance from anything flammable you don't want to burn. I wouldn't use it on a full lawn or bush area because it could burn unwanted things. And definitely best to use it in cooler, damp weather.The ease of use is just outstanding. You can either hit the weed with a little heat and let it die over a few days, or you can completely burn it to ash right then and there. And not gonna lie, it's FUN to use, hahah. LOVE this thing!

I used the torch for killing weeds between my interlock stones. Works well and lights easily. You have to play a little with the flow of the propane to get it the pressure just right but only takes a couples of tries to figure out. Sometimes too little or too much but once it gets set it should run without fussing with it.Definitely worth the money to save your time and more importantly saving your back from being bent over with sore muscles. Just walk and point the flame.Remember to use closed toe shoes and be mindful of where the flame is pointed.

This is a great tool as long as you get a good one. they seem to be hit or miss. i ordered one on amazon but it would only stay lit for 30 seconds and then when i would try to relight it would only last a few seconds before going out again over and over. if you let it cool off it would last another 30 seconds and then repeat the same process again. i was like dang this thing sucks if you can only use it for 30 seconds at a time.My guess is that was just a bad one. some have this issue and others the ignitor goes out and a few have had the tube melt in half but i think that is rare. anyways i went and got another one at lowe's to try it out and it works perfectly. the flame doesn't go out unless you get too close to the ground or turn the gas down too much. if it does go out you can ignite it again and keep on working. i'm not sure what was wrong with the other one i got but this new one works great. it really is a fantastic product but there seems to be some quality control issues. maybe it's just the older ones that have the problems? i don't know. if you get a good one you will love it. you can be pretty precise with it unlike the bigger torches out there that are available. also the small 1lb gas tanks are cheap where as the larger tanks are kind of expensive and cumbersome to carry around.all i can say is if you get a bad one then just return it and try another until you get a good one.

I've been using this unit for weeks now...it performs as expected and safe to use after carefully reading instuctions.
