Older but still outstanding classical guide to the remarkable art of Aikido. A+
This book is written for the student who has already been physically introduced to the basic aspects, and later advanced concepts of the art of Aikido, with full pictures and descriptions of each technique with it's proper application (also an educational guide for the student to learn the proper Japanese names for each move.) The book for any serious Martial Arts athlete who spends the time painstakingly physically studying the art of Aikido at the dojo with other students. I currently study both Small Circle Jujitsu from the late Wally Jay and his associate Dave Castoldi of Boston, and when I have the time I also study the remarkable Martial Art of Aikido. In my past I had intensely trained in both Karate, Kendo fencing, and Kung Fu. Prof. Shioda's book is a classic and needs to be added to any student of Aikido's library for better practice of the art. Five stars and A+

Excellent guide for the serious Aikidoka
This is an excellent pictorial guide for the serious Aikidoka. The explanations and the pictures are great. Shioda Sensei explains his personal approach to Aikido, and it shows that he is a true master, I highly recommend this book.

Fantastic photographs, clear style
Covering Yoshinkan Aikido by the founder, Gozo Shioda, I purchased it however because of the quality of photographs to help me with the basics of 'regular' Aikido for the beginner and it didn't disappoint. Covers history and fundamentals in a clear style. I think I will be referring to this book for a long time because it offers really clear direction and instruction. Great accompaniment to class.

good for beginners on the history
the first book I bought on Aikido 20 years ago! a small handy book; good for beginners on the history, background and the fundamental concepts. Useful even if you are not a student of the Yoshinkan "style" of Aikido. recommended.
