Obsessed (Professor Hunter)

Trigger Warnings: This book revolves around a student/teacher relationship (college age, over the age of consent)I’ve never read Ivy Smoak before and after reading this book I don’t know what that was and I am super upset I did not discover her books sooner. According to her website, this is the true first book in The Hunted Series (which I found out today will have a 5th book between Devotion and The Light to My Darkness and I am UNWELL at the moment) and is told exclusively from James Hunter’s POV. Spoiler Alert Ahead: James is a professor at the University of New Castle looking for a fresh start after leaving everything behind in New York City. On the first day of classes he quite literally runs into Penny Taylor as she is leaving the coffee shop. Thinking it is a one off and he will never see this beautiful girl again, he continues on with his day until he discovers that she is in his COMM class. This does not help James at all as he wants her but can’t have her. Enter a series of will they won’t they situations- James giving Penny his cell phone number, James walking Penny home while she is drunk, James picking Penny home after a disastrous double date. There is only one kiss during this whole will they won’t they period but let me tell you- that one kiss was all I needed to know that when they finally get together- and they finally do- would he HOT. James finally gives in thinking that he can get Penny out of his system if he just has her once and boy is he wrong! Once he gets a taste he can’t get enough. The only problem is that the more they are together, the more that Penny wants to know about James and James is afraid that if she knows the true him, she is going to run for the hills, because she is too perfect to be stuck with him. The only problem is- she is keeping secrets too. What ensues is a back and forth of are they/aren’t they. This book has a lot of back and forth in their relationship, but I could not put it down! I really was rooting for a happy ending because near the end everything blows up but was left with a cliffhanger and immediately had to get the next book because I needed to know what happened. Ivy Smoak really brought a fun read to the table with well developed, multi layer characters that kept you wanting more. Also, the spice is out of this world, which is just an added bonus in my opinion.

This book is so good. Yes is has sexy scenes but so do a lot of books. They are both consenting adults with a small age gap. So I dont understand how this was banned but it is definitely worth the read. Great storyline with just the right amount of smut.

I came across an ad for Obsessed as I was scrolling through Facebook one day and thought it sounded interesting. Interesting was definitely a good word for the book. I felt like the book started off pretty good but I started getting slightly annoyed. Professor James Hunter is definitely OBSESSED with Penny Taylor. Lol. I honestly got tired of reading Penny Penny Penny.. he seemed to consume himself with her. Lol Kinda got a little creepy and made me wonder if he did the same to other women in his “dark past” he keeps mentioning. I also haven’t read a series in a while that is focused on one set couple so I felt like the book dragged on, not really getting anywhere but the author is just setting the tone for the series..the couple will have more books so why rush the story!The book was still a good book considering, I have already downloaded the second book that seems to be in Penny’s POV with the First being in his. I almost skipped it because I didn’t really want to redo the story, I want to know what “the devil” did to him! Lol but I don’t want to read out of line. I will say… there are plenty of steamy parts in the book. (: If you are looking for steamy, this is the one for you. Can’t wait to see where Penny and Professor Hunter go now that he finds out her little secret. On to the next one..

I love reading an Ivy Smoak book. I'm sure everyone has heard this story of the professor and the student. But Ms Smoak has a talent with bringing a new perspective to the story a way of telling it that you don't see it coming. It's fresh and new. I love that this time we get to see James perspective. I love to see him fighting, basically for the first time in his life, to live his life his own way. We have seen James in past series briefly. (And I always wanted to know more!!) We have seen him down and out. And sad and completely messed up. I like how he's taking life by the b@lls and actually living it for himself. And now for Penny. There's always some very spicy material for the reader to get lost in. And the love between this couple literally feels like you can touch it and be a part of it. So not only does the author make the characters feel alive She makes it so that you can feel them too. I love how you can completely get sucked into the story and never want to leave the characters even if you've read them before from Penny's view. And there is a cliffhanger, but I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.

The student professor trope isn't my favorite, but Ivy Smoak doise this justice. The story has good pacing, fun chericters, and plenty of spice.

WOW!!!!! That book was incredible I couldn’t put it down for a second, I got burned a few times wow, I loved every page except for that end I am ready to kill that wife of his. Awesome book

This thing will wreck you. It’s an amazing messed up love story! Now I have to read the 2nd book

I really wish I knew up front that this was a cliffhanger. I don’t like cliffhanger’s.Slow start to the book. Now I understand why.

I most definitely love the guys pov, well, i love the guy's tale in a story, not just a retelling, it's like reading a whole different bookLook at that ending, 6 books from Penny's pov and we had no idea that had happened

An entire book with a James Hunter point of view and it was a fantastic read. Another great addition to the Hunted world and so great to hear James view of all his and Penny's interactions and his discussions with family, friends and his therapist. Looking forward to the rest of Hunted series in James POV!

I loved this in case it wasn’t obvious by my rating. You may think this book was going to be repetitive but you’re wrong. This felt like a new book despite being Temptation but in James pov.This was enlightening and interesting in so many ways…I was excited and scared to be in James’s mind but let me tell you, it was enlightening. The way his mind works is so relatable and a person with his past can only do so much. He has so much low esteem and self loathing… All of his life, he never felt love or happiness and that’s just sad. I felt for him on a deep level and it made him so relatable.His sessions with Dr. Clark were interesting. In his first session I was like “ Doc do you even know what you’re doing” but on the second session I was like “ yep Doc, you do know what you’re doing “ and also we do get to see what it was like for him and what he felt at the time when he was in college so that means everything that happened in Empire High and wasn’t that a revelation of events. I loved reading his pov and be able to pin point what happened in that point of his life.Every single time James thought of penny it was either so sweet or hot or depressing. Professor Hunter is definitely a sexy men but with a lot of baggage and issues.The last chapters where James “left Penny” I was like “ it’s not like her lie was worse than yours “ but still it’s understandable why he felt like he can’t trust anyone because let’s face it , if everyone in your life only lied to you wouldn’t you have the same trust issues? Still do I think it was necessary for him to leave her? No, I don’t because again I think his lie was worse but he was so overwhelmed with what she told him plus what was crossing through his mind at the time wasn’t great, he though he was a monster so again understandable.Honestly I kind of fascinated with his mind.Now I may or may not have called Isabella a b**ch a few times because like James said she’s crazy and a psycho and we all know how many problems she creates for our favorite characters so I just couldn’t control myself. 🤷‍♀️I’m so glad we eventually don’t have to deal with her anymore.Anyways , fabulous story and I’m even more excited to read Addiction from James pov!Excellent job Ivy 🖤

This book is insanely good! Insanely! You know other authors who have written an alternative POV, well, they need to take some tips from Ivy as reading from James POV was so revealing, knowing what was going through his mind was fascinating. The book flowed so well, was so well written, far better than other alternates I have read before.After reading Temptation from Penny's POV I always wondered what James thought, what he was doing when he wasn't with her, how he felt etc and Obsessed gives you all the details, I mean ALL the dirty, loving caring details that you may have wondered about.If you've read any of the Empire High books, and loved teenage James, you will love him even more, I really just want to give him a hug :-)I really hope the rest are written soon!!

Ivy Smoak is a genius. I loved that she did a seperate book for James Point of view. Gives you a full insight how James saw his relationship. Absolutely love penny & James true love. Can not put her books down.
