The Release: Golf's Moment of Truth

Amazing insights, some material outdated though
Author has done a great job sharing his amazing insights. Some are timeless which make this well worth your time if you have even the slightest interest in a golf "textbook." Some of the other ideas may be a little outdated and should be taken with a grain of salt, especially since most newer instruction advice uses Hackmotion and gearsgolf data to support any claims.

Please read this book if you are serious about your game.
First of all, it helps to have some idea of the two plane and the one plane swing when you read this. But it is not necessary. If you have not read Jim's other book or books, just be patient and review the material a few times before you make any decisions about the content. If you do understand I am sure you will be thrilled with this. I think I was one of the first to embrace the one plane and two plane theories when Mr.Hardy wrote about them in 2005. I gave my swing over to the one plane swing and what a journey it has been. I was instantly better but not without hiccups. But definitely much better and did things on a golf course that I had never done before each time I played. It was wonderful. Again, not without some pulls and slices and what not, but ball striking was amazing again and more importantly I was having fun again! And also addicted again! Please note that after playing the game for twenty-five years and listening to every instructor and reading every article about the game I was so screwed up I was ready to quit completely! I will let Jim tell you why I was so screwed up, and if you have read his book or books you will know why. But thank God I ran into The Plane Truth for Golfers and I have worn that book out! It is a dog- eared heap of paper after reading it so many times and doing the drills. But I digress, after doing a blend of both releases that are mentioned in this new for years I was kind of stuck. As a constant tinkerer I would fiddle with being close to the ball at address and could hit the ball pretty well, and then move it out just a bit and really had to come from the inside out. BUT NEVER DID I USE MY RIGHT HAND LIKE THIS! Or even thought about it or knew about it! I was always a puller of the left. This just blew my mind being a one plane swinger and doing the RIT release. And as Jim has taught, you should get better right away or the lesson is bad, the teacher is bad, or you don't understand it.After some swings in my garage and a bucket on the range I was ready to put it into action. It is so cool to just drop your hands, throw the right wrist and hit a 270-yard fade with no effort! I am still not hitting my long irons as well as I will but have never hit my three wood or driver better and my short irons are just fine. Read this, decide which release is best for you based on your swing. I knew the one plane was right for me immediately when I read the first book and I could tell the RIT release was going to be my direction half way through this book. Be patient and let this all sink in. You won't regret it. It will change your golf life!

One of the greatest minds in golf!
Another masterpiece from a true genius when it comes to the golf swing. I have read all of Mr. Hardy's materials since they first came out, purchased his DVD's, and have been fortunate enough to take a lesson from him and several of his instructors over the years. He is one of the nicest, most humble men that you will ever meet but he has a true talent for understanding and communicating about the golf swing. That being said, this book might be a little more difficult to understand if you aren't familiar with his methods or the terminology used, but if you will persevere, there is a lot of gold to be uncovered in his insights into the golf swing and how to improve. Much more so than any other instructor that I'm familiar with, and I have read and explored almost all that is out there. I had a lesson from one of his proteges and former tour player Marty Fleckman a few years ago which focused on me releasing the right arm from the top. Now with Mr. Hardy's book about the RIT, it has all come together and my ballstriking is better than it has been in 40 years. My suggestion for anyone who is reading this book is to read it through and focus on really digesting the material one bite at a time to avoid any confusion about it. Most people read it to fast and immediately go out the range expecting too much too quick. When you try it out, make sure to over exaggerate what he is trying to tell you to do. When releasing the right wrist and throwing the clubhead around to the left, you have to make if feel like it's way left and around. If you are too hesitant or don't do it enough, it doesn't work. Once you get a small taste of doing it right a couple of times and seeing that swinging around to the left causes the ball to go straight, then it allcomes together. Hitting a lot of balls with a wedge using only your right wrist and arm will ingrain the correct impact feel. I can't say enough about Mr. Hardy or about what he has contributed to this wonderful game.Matt W.

One thing that I think would have enhanced the book a great deal would have been to have had the photographs ...
I thought that this was the final piece of the puzzle. I do think that there are a couple of contradictions between the Plane Truth series--an example would be if you look at Peter Jacobson demonstrating the "One Plane" swing in the Plane Truth For Golfers book, I don't see him dropping his left arm straight down toward his toes to facilitate letting the right arm become the "Plane arm" as Hardy insists is critical in the Right arm Inward Throw release. This is the first time that I have ever seen the explanation of how a golfer can keep his right arm against his side (not in front of his hip) and keep the arm bent as he comes through the ball and still have an explosive release. One thing that I think would have enhanced the book a great deal would have been to have had the photographs much, much bigger in size. I think that many of these photos should have been at least a half page in size, and they were crammed into a space where six or eight photos were placed on a single page. I would have rated the book five stars had the pictures been better and easier to follow.I think that all serious and analytical players would really enjoy reading this book--especially if you liked the Plane Truth for Golfers series (2 books for those who are not familiar with the series)

Great but not for beginners.
If you don't understand the basics of what makes a golf swing tick, this book is not for you. Its highly technical stuff all the way and will bore you very quickly if you are not that way inclined. However if you are a single figure player or who have a good understanding of your own swing this book will be a great help, provided you go about it the following way. First, take a video of yourself from the down the line position and find out if you are a LOP or an RIT basic swing as per the book. If you are a LOP swing and it does not really work for try RIT and visa versa. As an X professional myself you will find this book of great value. My only complaint is that the book has been compiled mixing both swing types up all the time and hard to follow at times. So read it all and go back to what you need only. Also most of the great players have a little of each swing type in them we call them "hybreeds" see what bits suit you take lots of video and refer back to the book as to what works or not for you. Enjoy. PS. - I bought this for my Amazon fire works just fine.

The missing link!
Thank you Jim Hardy, I have 2 of your previous books and this is truly the missing link that has shaped my One Plane Swing. Now hitting very consistant shots with a repeatable swing......like poetry in motion :-)

Excellent book for understanding the golf swing but let down by missing critical pictures.
Book is excellent and transformational. However, the kindle form is let down by a critical set of photos which are missing (reference Fig 9.24)
