The Mighty Currawongs

This is one of the best of Bryan Doyle's works. It is easy to read, full of words that work to bring out feelings and relate directly to the reader, whether that feeling is side-splitting humor from similar experience (Boston pick-up league Basketball) or deep soul searching (could that be me - in the Bishop who momentarily lost his faith).There simply is not enough Brian Doyle.

I must admit that I have loved all of Byron's books and have heard him speak several times so my opinion may be highly biased. I really enjoyed many the stories in this book, especially the ones about his brothers, stories that I have heard before in a more condensed form and his talks. I highly recommend this book for people who would enjoy reading a short story when they do not have time for something longer.

Brian Doyle is unique. He turns contemplation into stories. He makes you laugh out loud, literally, not just as an emoji posing as an acronym. You feel wiser after you put one of his books down than you felt when you picked it up. Sad that we lost him too young. I'm sure he had more to show us and tell us.

These are stories to wiggle their way into your thoughts, so that you will find yourself wondering about the characters as you move about your day, which in turn will cause you to glimpse wonder and awe in your own life, which is the very best recommendation I could give for a book. As the author has said, let us laugh, and be tender.

A book to reaffirm the beauty and pathos and grandeur and laughter of being a human being - drawing through the features of our humanity to the the reservoirs of empathy available to us in our pilgrimage. I may be one of Brian Doyle's biggest fans so everything he writes is great by me.

Very short stories (flash?) each of which was enrapturing from the first sentence. I loved the collection so much thatI bought two more novels by Brian Doyle.

I love anything that Brian Doyle creates to share with all of us lucky enough to read his work.
