Still the best book every written on the topic of film financing.
A very detailed book on the economics of the film industry and how it all fell apart.

Everything you wanted to know about how Hollywood really makes it's money!
This is a truly fascinating book. I read the previous edition in paperwork twice and recently purchased the updated version 2.0 for my Kindle. For anyone who has any interest in the Hollywood "system" and how they actually make their money off their products this is a must read. For any one with a casual interest you'll probably still find something to enjoy in it. I loaned my paperback copy for example to a friend of mine to have him just read a couple chapters to discuss while he was on vacation and he came back having read the whole thing. The book goes into great detail without being too wordy as to what makes Hollywood tick and the new way their business works.

Easy to follow and entertaining
Easy to follow and entertaining. Book is good for understanding the business end of show business and can fill in a lot of blanks a person needs to know to grasp all the ins and outs of how the money flows. However, and this is why I'm giving four stars instead of five, since things have and are changing so fast, you should complement what you're reading with other resources that are more current.

How The Hollywood Economist Explains Box Office
I chose this book because it was required reading for film students at Woodbury University and I loved it. It is a page turner and taught me (I'm an adjunct professor there) so much about what we love reading about -- the weekend box office! Why would that make the news in the first place? How much does reporting the Box Office really mean? How to movie house owners make money? It was so very interesting to read. I don't know if I agree with everything he says. At toward the end I became alittle weary because I was not as interested in the subject. But I loved the first half and recommend it to anyone who loves movies.

Insightful episodes badly organized
I needed to understand the Hollywood economics for work and while the book provided the necessary bits and pieces it lacked a coherent framework that would give an overview. But due to lack of these kind of books still valuable and commendable

Great book
I'm an equity analyst that covers some entertainment companies. The Hollywood Economist helped me understand how many in the entertainment industry makes money in a more detailed and nuanced way that I have not seen anywhere else.

The hidden reality behind the financial aspects of moviemaking is an accurate description of this excellent book. You can learn the theory of movie finances in other books. This one describes how the system works in practice.

If accountancy was a thriller.
Really interesting read. The making movies side of the process sounds way easier than the back end shenanigans...Very clearly written and makes a potentially hideously complex topic a fairly easy to follow read.Excellent

A light written but well compound view of hollywood business. It lacks referencing and I will invite the author to release his resources, some obvious but many appearing as own thoughts when are clearly the result of his reading other investigations.

Good to get an overview of the film industry
As a Screen Editor I wanted to know how the business of film worked, at least on a global scale so that i was better prepared to figure out how to earn a living in this game. The book helped give me a general indication as to how things work in practise and where I sit in the pecking order.
