Unfortunately I agree with the other review that this product was slightly dull compared to how sharp I expected a brand new knife of this cost to be. I really don't have the time to send it back or search for a new one, so I plan to just sharpen it at work. For a professional quality knife, I was expecting better. It'll do just fine once its properly sharpened, but I wouldn't go recommending this to any of my friends.

Four Stars
Very good knives for beginners, no too expensive, very sharp out of the box.

Great knives!
These knives are not the average knives you buy at the grocery store ! They are really a life-changer in a kitchen. It is pleasant to work with them and they are great quality. Yes, they are a little pricey, but they are totally worth

Junk.
I am so disappointed in these knives. I was expecting a lower quality knife than a (much more pricey) Yaxell or Shun, but this was worse than I expected. The handle on the 8" is HUGE. Much, much larger than it looks in the picture. Both knives are dull, and wouldn't cut a tomato out of the box. Overall, these knives look and feel cheap. For the price, I wasn't expecting much. What I received was disappointing, even with low expectations. My junky 10 year old faberware knife outperforms these knives. I expected them to be attractive, at least... But the giant, cheap looking (and feeling) handle negates the beauty of the (dull) blade. Not functional, not attractive, not keeping. Bummer.

Damascus steel is great looking, but the knife is great regardless
Sharpest, prettiest blade I have ever owned. I have the Kamosoto chef and boning knives as well. holds the edge very well and nicely balanced. what more could you ask for... HIGHLY recommended.

Beautiful sharp Japanese steel. Love it.
The media could not be loaded. Dang, this thing is a beaut. Recently I've been in the market to upgrade my knives and read many articles about what to look for and time and time again, every article says that Japanese steel is where its at. I've used this knife for the past week and here are my first impressions.Sharpness: Out of the box this knife was sharp but not as sharp to my liking. A lot of the Japanese knives do not come out of the factory full sharp from what I've read and require you to sharpen them at home. It is recommended that you sharpen your knives often and I sharpen before and after every couple of uses. Once I sharpened this guy, it was razor sharp. See the attached video. It slices though a potato like butter. It also kept it's edge quite nicely. Overall I had no issues with sharpness.Quality: This knife just looks absolutely beautiful. It is made of 67 Layers VG-10 Damascus steel which is the top of the line steel that was even use back in the day to make samurai swords. I have gotten many compliments from my house guests. The handle feels also high quality and as my wife puts it "just has a nice balance" when its in your hand. The knife comes in a nice box that would be a great gift idea.Utility: I chose the 5 inch knife and it works great on veggies and cutting up fruits. The point is super pointy and just slides though these types of foods like nothing.Overall: I personaly think this is just a gorgeous knife. I have a Shun and also a Miyabi knife and I think this knife holds up well to its more well known competitors. I love the Japanese Damascus steel layers look and overall I would highly recommend this product. I did receive this product at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest review.

High quality, and beautiful
I was surprised to read a negative review on this knife. It is gorgeous and very sharp and performs wonderfully. It feels good in my hand, and the balance is just about perfect. I tried to get photos that show how beautiful this knife is, but they do not do it justice. It is really a work of art, and the box it comes in was very nice as well. The knife is plenty sharp for me, and it is holding its edge very well so far. I have a very old set of expensive knives, and this lives up to them in utility but wins completely in its beauty. It is clear to me that great pride was taken in producing this knife. The knife boasts a lifetime guarantee, and also money back in 30 days if not satisfied, so I could test it myself risk free, which I really like. I was given a discount for my honest opinion and since I rely heavily on Amazon reviews to make my purchases, I am careful and meticulous in doing my reviews.

Beautiful Japanese Knife
I ordered this knife for my husband, who is a professional chef, and he can really be very honest on his opinion. He is very pleased with this knife. When we first opened the magnetic box, we were very happy to see inside it, a very beautiful knife. It doesn't look at all like a cheap knife. It is more beautiful than the pictures can show.My husband used it in less than an hour after receiving, and these are his words; very sharp, not a heavy knife, blade is thin but very sturdy vertically and laterally, and perfect balance! The Damascus pattern ( tiny wave pattern ) is very simple and beautiful at the same time and the ergonomic rounded micarta handle feels and looks fantastic. It's beautiful, light, comfortable in the hand, well balanced, and easy to use. Absolutely razor sharp... beautiful workmanship. It really is not very heavy, but this is not a big deal.I received this product at a discount price!
