Nice HD unit for the price.
I replaced my older unit when I purchased new HD cameras. Works very well, I installed a 2TB drive.

Nope not for me.
Here it is. Even with the latest firmware update. This dvr has a tough time recognizing cameras. Even adjusting tvi, ahd, cvi cameras manually in the main menu- xvi ahd. Even high end cameras have a problem. It does not network p2p with T-Mobile or AT&T 4g-lite. The device app "sees" the dvr, but one cannot open the cameras. Device not online pops up. Probably because they both are not true high definition (HD), just standard definition (SD). Depending on your wireless plan. I do like the gui simple, quick.I returned this unit.

Keeps failing
The box keeps dropping all 6 of the cameras that are hooked up then picks them up again. Started every couple days and is happening more and more often.

Do not put yourself through this mess.
Do not put yourself through this mess. What a nightmare. From the beginning I received a scratched unit that had been opened. When I messaged the seller about this they rudely insinuated that I was lying to them. I had attached a picture to the message but they said they didn't get it. I sent another. As Amazon fulfilled the item they blamed them and told me to deal with them. I did, Amazon got another one in the mail to me.Before I received the replacement unit the existing unit which appeared to be working aside from the scratches, started failing. I found where it had reset itself one morning after it stopped receiving a bit stream. This caused a reboot. Looking that up I seen where one camera lost signal and then another. When it couldn't recover them the system rebooted after 5 minutes in spite of that option being off. I messaged the seller and they claimed they hadn't heard of such a problem and then rudely commented that it must be my cameras, and how when something goes wrong with their DVR people want to blame the DVR for the problems, and that maybe I should just get another brand. Had I not already had another en-route that is exactly what I would have done. Those cameras were a month old and had never failed on the Floureon unit they came with and it has the same bios firmware as the JZTek.I updated the firmware and upon that reboot it failed and reset 3 times in a row. During this time the problem I had noticed with it really struggling to identify the AHD cameras and initialize them after reboot and switching into and out of night mode. After trying to figure out what was happening I just happened to have ended up on 9 screen view where it showed the bitstream rate. In spite of the unit getting a great picture from the cameras which was being displayed from their DVR to my live monitor, it was at 0 bitrate for 3 of the 4 cameras. I quickly before it rebooted again went and unplugged and re-plugged those cameras, 2 finally got a bitstream and it took 2 more tries to get the bitstream to show up for the last camera. Further testing with this and the motion detection was worse on this unit than any others. Even at the lowest settings in bright daylight, no motion objects in view the alarm was going off repeatedly. I had my son walk out across the yard and it would not detect him at all on the lowest. Ignoring the previous rudeness I messaged the seller back and explained what I had discovered. The response to that message was the rudest yet. The seller accused me of blaming them for the problem without checking anything. The seller then accused me of having a bad attitude and accused me of buying their DVR just to find fault with it so that like co many other clients I could just get a double refund, and said that I must admit there were such clients. My reply to that was no longer so kind. I had never even asked for a refund, I had spent a few hours trouble shooting their mess to get it working right.A few days after the last message I got a message from another rep saying he was the manager and apologized for the previous rep and excused them because of her young age. At that point he offered a full or partial refund of free things and I told him I just wanted to get it working. In the mean time they had sent some kind of file that when I asked for clarification as to its purpose said it would allow them complete access to the DVR to trouble shoot it remotely. There was no way in the world that I was allowing that after the previous exchange. The day the manager messaged the replacement unit come in. It wasn't scratched but wouldn't work right from the start. It had the same issues with failing to properly initialize the cameras but there were far worse problems with this one. After two hours of tracking these issues I realized that I hadn't heard the alarms even once. I went to check the logs and the recorded files to see if I had just tuned them out, there wasn't a single recorded file to be found, not regular 24/7 or motion activated. This unit was showing that it was recording but there were no files to be viewed or even downloaded. I checked everything, I even had saved the configuration file from the other unit and tried it but no luck. The latest firmware didn't help it either. It could view all of the previous recordings from the previous unit but nothing after this one was up. I finally found that when looking at HDD info that it thought it was recording there as well but it never showed up to be viewed or transferred for a backup. I couldn't force the motion detection to work even at the highest settings. Something was seriously corrupted. I sent a message to the seller about these new issues.I went back to the reviews here and read all of the 1 to 3 star reviews. I should have done that first. Even though the seller claimed this was all new to them this had been a recurring problem with many others. Cameras not working etc. In the mean time the seller responded and wanted me to contact tech support between business hours. Another reply to that and I found out that was China time as that is where they all were. And here came the other complaint of people playing cat and mouse with over seas tech support that was far less than helpful. Their return time would run out before they ever got the issues solved.I put the hard drive back in the Floureon, Hooked the cameras back up and it has been running since with no failures of the cameras or the DVR since, that was over a week ago with no reboots since. I Called Amazon for a shipping label and sent two of these junkers back 30 minutes later. This will be the Third time I am writing this, I will be saving this review in a file this time. I have the messages to prove my claims here and yet they somehow had my review deleted though it was accepted and here for a while. Apparently they lack any integrity as well.As for the reason I wanted to replace the new Floureon? It was originally listed as a 1080P when it was only a 1080N, they fixed that right away and offered a refund but this was cheaper than the cameras would have been alone. There is a significant difference in the size and quality of the video. The video on this one was OK on the one that worked, but it was useless to keep and rely on a unit that would drop the cameras and reboot whenever it wanted, and this happens to many people. As I stated this JZTek and the Floureon have the same bios with the exception of it allowing 8 channels of 1080P vs a max of 8 channels of 1080N on the Floureon and that related option in the bios. They do have different boards but the same Bios so that means this is a hardware problem particular to this unit vs the Floureon they haven't been able to fix in a few years by the reviews. Also this has the same security issue as the Floureon. They both can be changed by various remote controls. A ROKU 2 remote can shut down the recording in 3 arrow pushes, other random remote entries can alter or delete your settings as well. Though the Floureon has no remote like this one did, it had an IR / RF receiver active. These are not able to be turned off with the current firmware. Therefore you can have your units recorders shut off remotely without even having a connection to the internet which was the surefire way to stay safe on these chinese clones before this.
