All of the negative comments are correct.
Okay, I have had this book for over four years, I originally purchased it just to brush up on SQL. I have been working with SQL on and off for about 20 years now and wasn't really interested in a beginner's guide, just a reference. With that said, if I wanted a beginner's guide/book, this would not have been it. After four years of owning it, I finally decided to read it. The first thing I normally do with a SQL book is look to see what database(s) the book is using. You are never really told this in this book. There are spots throughout the book that it will let you know what database the code is using, and that would be one of Microsoft's test databases (Adventureworks20**). So I definitely agree that this book is put together like it was notes from the author's random SQL notes. There is no reason to use Adventureworks2008 for one problem and then Adventureworks2012, and use them interchangeably and then many problems without letting the user know what database they were using. It just blows my mind that someone would just through their notes in to a book and then aim it at beginners or anyone for that matter.

Claims to be true and pure SQL, but is microsoft distinct. Big let down.
This is definitely so-so. The title claims Ultimate Guide From Beginner To Expert, which is a misnomer. Also, the text only has examples that are useful to microsoft technologies, and two or three code dumps for Oracle. Friends like PostgreSQL and the ever popular ORACLE and MySQL will be left in the dust here. I found this revolting, and a fantastic waste of money. If you fancy code dumps and are only every going to use microsoft technologies, hours online chasing the "equivalent everyone else uses" this book may help you along. All the technologies used are pay, subscription, and proprietary. For the rest of the world, it was a moot read.

Great as a refresher for a quick review
As a researcher and an author I read many books about a specific topic. This one caught my attention during a price promotion and it was well worth the price I paid for it. If you are looking for a well written summary of SQL this book may help you. I would not recommend it if you are new to SQL unless your intention is just to have a secondary description of what SQL is all about. As you know, learning is not a linear process - one needs to read different articles about the same subject and do lots of practicing exercises to internalize concepts. For the right price this book is a gem.

It is good for beginner!
This e-book is really helpful to beginners. I had never learned of SQL but I wanted to learn SQL. Even I was a new comer in this part, after reading I could apply following the e-book. There are many examples and good to practice. Some things are very simple and others are somehow complicated. So people can practice in various levels. If you got in trouble, don't hesitate to choose this e-book.

Consider investing in a standard work on SQL instead
Although the e-book is inexpensive, it is severely lacking:* There is little actual, usable content, and most of the useful bits are quotes from other sources.* The book gets its length from overblown and sadly rather useless examples (through pages and pages of sample tables, for example).* The formatting is poor, making it hard to track what the key commands and parameters are.* The writing style is overly casual, glossing over details and making curious use of disclaimers. If the author would remove unnecessary detail (as through shortening sample query output), improve formatting, and overall trim the book using more of a focused, unapologetic style, it would not necessarily become a good book on SQL, but certainly a much better one, actually warranting the though low price.(It is astonishing to see so literally a hundred glowing reviews and not single critical remark. As if there had been two versions of this book.)

I feel like 0. 99 dollars is too money for this
After reading this book a day, I feel like 0.99 dollars is too money for this. totally worthless !!I could not believe what I read inChapter 6 Recommendations"Amazon is an amazing resource for anyone looking to purchase or sell items on the internet. When it comes to learning about new things, Amazon is an incredible resource for anyone looking to expand their knowledge. When it comes to sitting at the computer, specifically when we you work on a computer all day, there are certain risks that go along with the profession. Regular hand exercises are crucial in preventing the development of carpal tunnel and unnecessary joint stress. An item by Koh Fit called Stress Ball Hand Exerciser. This item is rated by nearly 200 people and has an average of five out of five stars."Seriously !!!

There are better choices out there
The only conceivable reason this verbose introduction to SQL is a best-seller is its low price. I cannot imagine how someone completely new to the language would benefit from it. Pick up the ClydeBank QuickStart Guide instead.

Always wanted to learn SQL and now I got it! Cool charts throughout the book! Thanks!
Wowโฆlearning SQL for the first time! Nobody said it would be easy but this is a cool book. The part that I like most is that is is very detailed and breaks everything down for you in very simple terms. The charts throughout this book makes it a winner for sure. It makes the most complex language more easy to follow. I know that I will have to read this book a few more times to start to master the art of SQL but for this price it beats going back to school to learn it! Awesome book! Thanks! :)

Not the ultimate guide
This book doesn't go into building SQL statemets at all, appears to just copy and paste tables from Stack exchange and Microsoft and contains a chapter on buying products from amazon! I kid you not. Save your money

Almost useless
Almost useless and written in extremely poor English. Not worth the $0.99 I paid for it.

Looks like he opened some code and simply pasted it into ...
After literally 10seconds of looking at it you know this book is worthless - no editing, no table of contents. If you saw this book in a real bookshop you wouldn't buy it, simple as that. Looks like he opened some code and simply pasted it into Word and published it. What a scam.
