Easy & authentic Korean recipes
My wife and I went to South Korea a few years ago and really enjoyed the food, but the thought of actually making it at home seemed pretty daunting. This book has authentic recipes with easy-to-follow steps that made whipping up a Korean meal much easier than we thought it would be. I'm not a vegetarian but found I didn't really miss having meat in the meal like I thought I would; the dishes are really flavorful and the protein from eggs, tofu, etc. was more than satisfying. So far we've made the Simple Cabbage Kimchi, Scallion Pancake, Braised Tofu & Mushrooms in Soy-Sesame Sauce, Steamed Shishito Peppers with Sesame Dressing, and Pickled Yellow Radish. All of the ingredients should be easily available in a decent grocery store (if you can't find them there or at a local Asian market, they're available on Amazon). The pics I took of our meal aren't quite as nice as the ones in the book, but they're not too shabby for first tries.

From learning the fundamentals of Korean cooking to adapting it for vegetarians and vegans....this is an excellent one!
I, too, grew up with this food and this book is intensely nostalgia-inducing. I have to admit that I'm much better at eating than cooking in general and with my original source of Korean food (aka, Mom) half a world away, I've been mostly estimating/faking my way through cooking Korean food myself. So, finding this book was enlightening to say the least. The section on basic seasoning base is particularly helpful. Sometimes it's so ingrained in you that you need someone else to categorize and clarify for you, you know? This was exactly it. So much of Korean food is founded on these seasoning base that this is half the game! I'm not a vegetarian so I am modifying some by adding meat, but honestly the straight out veggie version is incredible! Some of the dishes introduced are veggie-adaptation of traditionally non-vegetarian dishes, and I never knew how good they could be sans-meat. The instructions are very easy to follow and the pictures are scrumptious. If you have had some exposure to Korean food and want a deeper, broader experience, start with this book! If familiar with Korean food already and interested in making it vegetarian- or vegan-friendly, this book has the answer. If you grew up eating this stuff and want to learn more about it, this book is for you. I know my Mom will be impressed.

Good for Novices of Korean Cuisine
If you have never cooked Korean food and want vegetarian recipes of some of the most commonly eaten dishes in Korea, this book provides a good introduction. But it's a very slight volume – not that many recipes – and there's nothing really there that you couldn't find on some of the better known Korean food blogs or Youtube channels (Maangchi, Korean Babsang, Kimchimari, etc.). Yes, those websites aren't vegetarian, but they do often provide suggestions on how to veganise or, if you have sufficient cooking experience, you can figure out how to adopt those recipes yourself. Some cookbooks are worth buying because they include photos and writing that add to flavour of the recipes, but "Vegetarian Dishes from My Korean Home" isn't this sort of coffee table book either that you could just browse through for visual enjoyment. In fact, I'd actually recommend Kim Shin's more recently published book "Korean Vegetarian Cooking: Authentic Flavors in Simple Steps" over this one, as it has more recipes.

A little thin
To be honest, I feel the book is a little thin and small. With the price like that, I was hoping for a bigger volume book.

Vegetarian Korean food. Yes, please!
Love this book. If you're a vegetarian and looking for Korean recipes, this is the cook book for you! I got it as a gift for my mother-in-law, who's always wanted to try to make Korean food, and she LOVES it!

This book on Korean vegeterian dishes was a big hit!
This was another Birthday gift for my friend and she loved it. She loves vegetables. And this was a good guess. Not being Korean I wasn't sure if I was making the right choice. Imagine my surprise when she told me how thrilled she was with it.

Start here.
I keep coming back to this little book. Everything in here is simple, fast, and absolutely delicious. Very few of the dishes require ingredients you won't find at a Kroger or wherever, and the ones that are a little harder to come by can be purchased online. I also love that there are not too many recipes, so you won't be overwhelmed. Each dish is also photographed, which is very helpful. If you are looking for a place to start with making Korean food, this is it.

So good, I love the jiggae and banchan recipes
A Korean vegetarian cookbook!! So good, I love the jiggae and banchan recipes. For me, it uses too many mushroms for my taste, however I can easily substitute for tofu or even leave out without much change to the delicious taste.

Buen libro
