Great Bedtime Reading with Youngsters
If you have a youngster to read with at bedtime, this is a book for you. Like it’s companion book The Children’s Book Of Virtues, it has simple short stories that are classics and have a teaching point on basic virtues. The latter was later developed into a PBS animated series of the same name that is also worth getting for your kids.

The Children's Book of Heroes
This book contains biographies of men and women who have inspired people to live life to their fullest potential by self-sacrifice and other worthy virtues. Some of the heroes include everyday folks like a mom, a dad and a child. Other stories are from the lives of well-known heroes, such as Mother Teresa and Helen Keller. There are also mythical characters and one bible story. My child was enthralled with this book and couldn't put it down. As one who easily quits when the going gets tough, she was moved by Helen Keller. Reading The Children's Book of Heroes has inspired her to look for ways to become a better person in imitation of the characters in this book. Although some of the characters in this book are fictional, they none the less speak to the heart, as good literature should. Reading stories of people who care and strive to do better than the status quo has motivated her to strive harder. This book also allowed her to gain experiences and perspectives she would never have without this book. It has opened up new worlds outside the narrow one that we inhabit. That is the finest recommendation a book can have: It has made my child a better person. We have experience with the Book of Virtues, The Moral Compass and The Children's Book of Virtues written by William Bennett. The Book of Heroes is as instructive and entertaining for children as The Children's Book of Virtues, Although these books were written a few years ago and the stories provided are not based on modern life, classic literature for children has been disregarded to a large degree. We can't expect children, teens or adults to learn and imitate the virtues of old if they are not exposed to them. I hope all the books edited and compiled by William Bennett make it into home libraries and are thoroughly read and shared for generations to come.I highly recommend this book for children of ALL ages!

Great way to introduce well known heroes
This beautiful book contains 18 stories that are 4 pages long on average. The pages are not stuffed full of words, but contain 1/2 words & some beautiful colorful illustrations. The stories include well known heroes lik Dad, Jackie Robinson, David & Goliath, Abraham Lincoln, Mother Theresa, Helen Keller, Hero of Indian Cliff, and more. These stories can be enjoyed as a family read aloud as early as 4-5 years. Children could read on their own by 3rd grade. What a lovely addition to our library!

Good buy
Nicely done. Preread before reading to young children. Some of the stories/poems have battle-like details.
