This is a super cute math reader for beginning readers
This is a super cute math reader for beginning readers. My little one is learning to read, this was perfect for her. She loved counting the fisherman, as well. The story is about 5 fisherman that set off to catch fish then when they are done they count to make sure they are all there. However, each one fails to count themselves. They cry because they fear one of them has drowned so they mourn their friend.Along comes a little girl and asks them if she finds their lost friend for them, will they promise to give her their fish. She counts them all and they are happy to know none of them has drowned. Giving the little girl their fish. Then they go home, eat carrots, and rejoice they are reunited! My daughter laughed at every page! Super fun, great illustrations and worth the read.We used this book for our silly story unit for homeschool!

Perfect for those struggling or emerging readers.
My son dislikes reading and struggles with it, he would much rather be fishing. The book does have simple counting to five, with simple easy to pronounce words with an engaging storyline. Another reviewer mentions that the book is inappropriate because it mentions death. I have to disagree with even my 7 year old recognized immediately that the fishermen were not counting themselves. It's a great book and certainly enjoyable for all.

great first grade read alone
AR level 1.5, great beginning reading book, my son who is not thrilled with reading loves to read this book. A story about 5 fishermen, who a good at fishing, but not so good at counting how many fishermen there are, a little girl comes a long and saves the day, and she gets all the fish. But the fishermen are happy they have each other. 32 pagesif you enjoy this kind of book, Try "Sir Small and the Dragonfly" Level 1.8.

Fun and silly counting book
My 3 and 4 year old great nephews didn't quite get this silly counting book. But Step books # 2 aren't for their age even though the majority are great to read to them and they love them. They just didn't get the joke with this one.

Cute
A good book for early readers. It keeps them engaged. High interest and low reading level combine for a good experience.

Math
