Good purchase for the money
The grip, shape, and weight of this pen are exactly what I wanted. It is exceptionally light and easy to hold/write with for long periods, posted or otherwise. However, the nib always starts dry and frequently skips. And then there is the cap. The cap on this pen is held in place with some kind of friction mechanism. As a result, its not easy to post the cap at all, and posting leaves large gouges in the inside of the cap from the mechanism. Its a decent starter pen, but its rough spots leave a lot of room for improvement.

Lovely writing tool, great value
A very solid but inexpensive fountain pen. Nib writes like a broad, and perhaps I don’t know how to make the most of it, however doesn’t provide the brush stroke effect in my hand. Nonetheless I love the pen and it’s now my daily writer.

Absurdly Good
I bought this to go with my Moma Muji aluminum pen and pencil and it matched like a charm. I found that the Waterman ink converter worked fine and Herbin ink flowed through without gumming, which is not true of a number of my favorite nibs. It is likely joining the aluminum Sharpie that I carry every day. It writes well, travels well and is tough. Excellent value. For the self-defense minded, think Kubotan.

Decent pen. Good broad nib. Too narrow for My hands.
It's a decent pen. I bought the broad tip because I like thick, dark lines. It's a little too small for My hands. I feel like I'm holding a #2 pencil or a woman's pen. Other than that, it's okay. The broad nib is a good feature because with a little angle work you get different line widths. The tube for ink could be a little larger for fewer refills. It's...okay.

Great value for the money
The pen is a lot lighter and thinner than I thought it would be, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Gripping it felt similar to writing with an old fashion wooden pencil, if anyone remembers those. If you are used to writing with a thicker pen, then it may take some getting used to, but it is not bad. I like the style with it being all black except for that touch of gold on the nib. Looks pretty nice.It writes well, with no scratchiness out of the box and the converter works as it should. It has an agitator, which you can choose to keep or remove. The converter comes apart with a pull. The cap is not screwed on as a lot of others, but it holds everything together, just fine. For the price, if I lost it, I wouldn't be heartbroken and I would just order another. Great buy.

Very nice for the price!
I like the weight and balance of this instrument- not too light nor too heavy, not too fat a circumference so I don't feel like a kindergartener using preschool crayons. The nib is surprisingly smooth writing, and the gold on black accents the simplicity of the barrel design. It reminds me of my younger years when sleek, black sports cars caught my eye. The only thing I can complain about is the sleeve inside the cap that enables it to snap on actually came out over the nib the first time I pulled the cap off. No issues with it since then. Good purchase, and will probably be getting more.

Best fountain pen
I have used a fountain pen for many many years. Love the balance and weight of the pen and the price.

Very smooth writer in a sleek package
I've bought other Hongdian pens before and have been pleasantly surprised. That was the case once again with this pen, which I've been using for a few days now. I inked it up with Monteverde Sweet Life Birthday Cake because I love the pairing of black and purple. I loved that this came with a converter. A lot of my more expensive pens, including those from Kaweco and Lamy, do not include converters and you have to pay an extra $6. I love the looks of this pen and how light it is. You can use it posted or unposted because the cap does not add a lot of extra weight. The nib performance is super smooth. It runs a little close to a medium, but it's also dry enough where it's not a gusher but it lays down a nice, smooth line. This nib alone is worth the price of the pen and would be a nib I would look to purchase to replace some of my other nibs.Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and continue to trust this brand to produce solid writing instruments.

Cap rattles and wobbles when posted
It looks like the top of the pen has little, springy metal bits that I assume are meant to provide some kind of springy friction to hold the cap in place when posted. Unfortunately, this is a poor idea, as it makes the cap rattle and wobble when posted. Just making the hand motions I would make whilst writing is enough to make the cap constantly wobble.I purchased this pen to complement a Hongdian Black Forest fude nib pen, which I am really pleased and impressed with. Unfortunately, this Hongdian H1 is not a patch on that pen, either in feel, or in the precision/plushness of construction.Being as pleased as I am with the Black Forest fude nib, I was looking forward to trying this Hongdian extra-fine nib (which does look very striking with its gold edges), but haven't done so as I returned the pen due to the cap issue. If the quality of the fude nib in the other pen is anything to go by though, I expect this would have been equally as good.If you want an exceptionally lightweight metal pen, and aren't bothered about posting the cap, then you may still enjoy this pen. For me, the wobbling cap is a deal-breaker though.

Pretty good for the price
The width, weight and size of the pen are actually pretty good; it is comfortable to write with. The nib is pretty nice, not so much to look at, but to write with I haven't had any issues with ink skipping, it writes with no issues after being sat unused for days on end and it's surprisingly smooth. I would say though that the nib is more fine sized than 'extra fine' if you are looking for an EF pen.My biggest issue is when you have the cap posted. I always write with the cap on top-no pen feels right to me without it on! That unfortunately leaves me dealing with the pens biggest fault-the rattle! The cap is secure, but you can hear and feel something moving- I'm assuming it is the inner cap being affected by the tiny springs that are present at the end of the pen body to secure the lid when posted. It's not drastically bad but it's there, it's annoying and it's the only pen I've come across with the issue. That's probably it's biggest issue. To be honest, it's not a huge fault and I don't regret the purchase

reliability
Looks nice, not startling. Plain straight-line matt black barrel & cap, converter, small feed and small two-tone nib - that's it. The surprise is at business end. Inked it with Diamine purple and nib very smoothly and effortlessly flowed across paper, no feedback, not dry, not wet, just great. Very light, comfortable, posted or not and posted securely - not tiring for long writing session. A great pen at a great price - as good as other more expensive pens I have.

Great pen for the price
Have been using this pen all week and can say I'm very pleased with it. It is made of aluminium so is light weight and using it for a long period doesn't make hand ache. The nib is a true extra fine that writes smoothly and I have had no issues with ink flow. For the price pen is well worth buying.

I really enjoy this fountain pen.
My Hong Dians are without a doubt my favourite fountain pens. The two tone nib is very beautiful, it writes smooth and on the wet side. I have the medium nib inked with Diamine Shimmering Fountain Pen Ink, and it looks so beautiful. I can not stress this brand (Hong Dian) enough. Sometimes when I find a fountain pen I really like, I will buy two, just incase something happens to the one I am using. Hong Dian is the only fountain pen I would buy three of.
