Metal has definitely been making a come-back over the past 5 years...and like with any booming genre of music, it will be flooded with crap-bands. Amidst those crap bands are really good bands that seem to gain enough popularity to not fall flat on their faces. And then there are the jewels who are generally seen as music's best kept secrets. Tribulation is most definitely one of these.Tribulation started off as a thrash band called "Hazard" and after changing their name to "Tribulation", the Swedes added old school Swedish death metal influence into their thrashing mix. The demo was great, the EP was even better, and surprise surprise; The album is absolutely amazing.What does it sound like? Imagine the old Swedish death-thrash band, Merciless, and mix in some early Entomed influence...and you pretty much have Tribulation. That being said, this hasn't been done before, or at least not done like this!The entire album is 32 minutes of relentless melodic, extreme death-thrash metal. The only thing I can find wrong with this release is that its...well, too short. As soon as it finishes I want to go back and listen to it again.That problem isn't really a problem though, because the album gets better and better with every listen.The CD itself comes not in a digipack, not in a jewel case, but what they call a "jewel box". It's pretty cool looking, and looks nice in any CD collection.This album seriously was the best of 2009...and its a shame these guys don't receive the credit they are due. The thing sells new for less than [...]...pick it up! You will not regret it!HAILS!

This is heavy death metal at it's finest. Nothing like their 2nd album "Formulas of Death", which is also quite amazing. This band is just getting started.

Heard this entire disc only once but will remember it for a while. A real heavy, sharp, vicious and brutal testament of death.Many so called "DM" bands are boring and generic and cannot touch TRIBULATION. This band is the real deal and cuts all the way through. They do remind me of CARCASS since they are Swedish but more modern.First impressions are important and this one did not fail. Highly recommend it for all you dark death freaks.

This is great blackened death metal from Sweden, and true to the old Swedish tradition. If you love Marduk and old Necrophobic albums, you'll love this. It's raw, not too polished, and absolutely vicious. I can't believe no one has taken notice of these guys, that I can see. I am absolutely enthralled with this release, and can't wait to see what they do next.

Spiffing piece of vicious old school death metal!It's got that proper dark atmosphere that death metal should have. Recommended!

Wow, was für ein derber Nackenschlag ?!? Das mir bisher unbekannte Plattenlabel "Pulverised Records" scheint sich so ganz klammheimlich zu einer der besten Adressen im Bereich des Underground-Thrash/Death zu entwickeln. Denn neben dem ebenfalls großartigen Zweitwerk der Schweden SANCTIFICATION ("Black reign") hat das Label mit den jungen Newcomern von TRIBULATION zweifelsohne eine der geilsten Prügel-Acts des Jahres im Angebot.Deren musikalischer Erstschlag trägt den vielsagenden Titel "The horror" und wird mit hundertprozentiger Sicherheit alle Metal-Heads zufriedenstellen, die mit Vorliebe alten Schweden-Veteranen wie ENTOMBED , DISMEMBER oder CARNAGE die Stange halten. Während der Trend neuerdings eindeutig in die Richtung "progressiv" und "technisch versiert" tendiert, geht das schwedische Quartett auf "The horror" vergleichsweise rüpelhaft zu Werke. TRIBULATION sind also zunächst mal eine richtig geile Elchtod-Kapelle, die mit einem Höchstmaß Wut und Heaviness nach vorne prescht , und dabei alles andere als am Puls der Zeit liegt. So wird auf dem Großteil der 9 Songs vor allem munter drauflos geknüppelt, als wäre der Leibhaftige hinter der Band her. Damit liegt das Aggressions-Level von Tracks wie "Curse of resurrection" , "Spawn of the jackal" , "Crypt of thanatophilia" oder "Sacrilegious darkness" natürlich ausnahmslos im roten Bereich, was den Hörer vor der heimischen Stereo-Anlage schon beim ersten Durchlauf zu andauerndem Propeller-Headbanging mitreißt. Die mächtigen, pechschwarzen Riffs hauen zentimetergenau ins Schwarze , und lassen mehr als einmal eindeutige Parallelen zu alt ehrwürdigen SLAYER-Scheiben "Show no mery" und "Hell awaits" aufblitzen. Ein musikalischer Vergleich, der sich übrigens auch in den recht chaotischen Gitarren-Soli wiederspiegelt. Im selben Atemzug müssen aber auch Bands wie AT THE GATES , DISSECTION , UNANIMATED oder NECROPHOBIC genannt werden, an denen sich TRIBULATION vor allem die packenden, mystisch-mitreißenden Melodien abgeschaut haben, die teilweise urtypische Black Metal-Vergleiche zulassen. Und überhaupt...die gesamte Grundstimmung auf "The horror" ist derart finster und unheilvoll, wie man es heutzutage kaum noch zu hören bekommt. Verstärkt wird dies durch die Hinzunahme von klassischen Instrumenten (Streicher, Piano-Passagen) , die den Songs in letzter Konsequenz den perfekten Feinschliff geben, und das TRIBULATION-Debüt damit aus dem Gros der momentanen Album-Schwemme hervorheben. Diese Band versteht ihr Handwerk...und sie schaffen es eindrucksvoll, mit minimalem Einsatz ein Höchstmaß der Emotionen hervorzurufen. Glaubt mir, derart effektive und gottgleiche Kompositionen wie "Beyond the horror" , "The vampyre" oder dem Rausschmeißer "Graveyard ghouls" hat wirklich nicht jede Band auf der Pfanne. Wer also von euch Scheiben wie "Left hand path" , "The third antichrist" , "The somberlain" und "Like an everflowing stream" zu seinen Faves zählt, der wird mit "The horror" seine helle Freude haben. Und da auch die äußere Aufmachung dieses rohen 32-Minüters (ein fabelhaft bebildertes Hochglanz-Booklet!) nicht den geringsten Ansatz zur Kritik gibt, sind die 5 Sterne die einzig logische Konsequenz. Ein kleines Meisterwerk !!!

Ovviamente nel senso buono del termine. Questo album è davvero bello, il primo di una trilogia che ha segnato un'evoluzione straordinaria nelle composizioni della band. Da avere!!!!

la pochette est belle et les 9 chanson sont bonne car l`album joue comme si il y aurais seulement une chansons bien montée et de la bonne guitare c`est du bon death metal

Buen album de Death Metal con sonido clásico.No es para fans del Tech Death o musica muy elaborada pues podrian encontrarlo aburrido.
