My ducks don't like em.
These are advertised for chickens, and have pictures of chickens all over them, so I am aware of the target audience here... but I got them because I have ducks and the package says, "specially formulated for premium poultry and gamebird flocks such as chickens, turkeys, peafowl, guinea fowl, geese, pheasants & DUCKS".However, I also know that ducks aren't a huge fan of seeds as they don't digest the best, so I wasn't expecting much. But my ducks had never tried them and I am ALWAYS looking for ways to entertain the girls. Especially int he winter when I can't let them run around as much and they are inside more. I hate the thought of them getting bored...So I decided to give them a chance, even if the girls just pecked them apart for fun and made a mess.Plus I had backup use for these if they didn't like them - the wild birds and squirrels. lol.As it turned out, my girls didn't even look at these. They didn't even play with them. Nothing. I've put decaying tree branches in their pen and they pick the wood apart for entertainment, so I thought at LEAST they would do THAT but nope. nothing. I left the brick in their bedroom inside the house for several days before I finally gave up and put it in the tray feeder outside. The wild critters out there are going GAGA for it. :)I think these are VERY high quality and the blocks are huge. about 6 times the size of a suet block for wild bird feeders. I really would get these again if I had chickens, or ducks who liked them. I think they are great! They just didn't work for me.

Ingredients are things the girls go for, but the block is way too hard. Had to bust it up.
These blocks are jumbo sized blocks, which I thought might be nice to put in with my flock of 16 as a treat that they could take a few days to break down. The price is a bit high for what is essentially 26 lbs of scratch in block form, but I wanted to give it a shot. The blocks are just too hard, even for my adult flock. I have Golden Comets, Barred Rock, Rhode Islands, and then some crosses with RR & BR. They're all fairly large stock, but they just couldn't break this up. They weren't really interested in trying after a lot of failed pecks, either. I ultimately busted it up, and suddenly it was the most amazing scratch treat on the planet so it does get credit for that.Between the price, and the blocks being so hard, I won't get this one again. I'll probably do some DIY with a little bit of peanut butter and make something more manageable for them. Really bummed out after reading all the raves.

Our barnyard mix pecked at then ignored, had to break it up into pieces
We raise over 20 different breeds of poultry including ducks, turkeys, guineas and chickens of all sizes from tiny banty chicks to huge brahma roosters. Our turkeys are 60 pound birds. Since there were 6 of these seed cakes we were able to offer them in multiple locations, including in their hog feeder troughs and in with a pair of rescue ducks who are currently rehabbing separately until fully healed then they will be permitted to join our main flock. All our birds were curious and pecked at the block then grew tired of getting minimal loosened up and went back to free-range foraging on our pastures and adjacent fields. Eventually we broke the blocks up into very small pieces (okay a hammer to these concreted seed blocks is a great way to let off some frustration!) then and only then did our birds finally have access to eating the yummies inside. They never did finish off everything, alot went to waste as they just aren't interested. Spoiled birds? Or simply caked together with too much of the hardening syrup? Offer our crazy flock an entire watermelon or a full cantaloupe or a fresh pineapple and it's ALL gone within minutes leaving just a few remnants of a very thin shell.

Some of the chickens like it
First I want to say that this isn't something you should give your chickens every day. I give them one once a week. It last 9, full-sized chickens around 3 days. There is sugar in the form of corn syrup and cane molasses. If you give this as a treat it's fine but it shouldn't replace a good quality feed. The chickens seems to like it. Some will peck at it more than others. To be honest, they go crazier over a handful of oats or cracked corn than they do these forging cakes. If they free range then they don't need these. If they are kept locked in a coop/pen then this may be a good thing to give them something to do to keep them busy.

Good quality and variety of ingredients; very hard packed cake
I like both the quality and the variety of ingredients in this forage cake. In addition to grains (oats, millet) there's corn, vegetables, fish meal, black sunflower, fruits and a whole host of vitamins and minerals. While it's intended as a supplemental item to their diet, it has a good nutritional profile compared with other forage cakes I've used. They come packed as a case making it easy to store the unused cakes. The main downside is that these are very hard. Rock hard. Forget about trying to cut it with a knife if the size/shape doesn't fit. You need a bandsaw to get through this. It's a bit too hard for my girls, but workable if I break it into chunks (using a hammer and chisel) so there's more exposed edges. The hardness issue drops my score to 4 stars, but otherwise it's a good quality cake with a nice mix of ingredients, and a long shelf life.

Chicken liked these; wish they were a little smaller
C & S Products Original Forage Cake, 6-PieceWe’ve had chickens for years, and my husband actually grew up with them around. We’ve always bought the same food/laying mash, etc. for them, but when I saw this, I thought it would be a good treat for them. At first, they mostly ignored it while pecking in the yard, but then I thought of maybe breaking it up a little. That worked. Hubby thought we should put it in their house for the days they don’t go out because of the weather. They liked that, too. These are nice treat for your chickens, and the price isn’t too bad. I just wish they were a little smaller. Recommend.

All the Birds Love These
We have wild quail and these are perfect for feeding them in the winter. They really seem to enjoy these cakes. The rest of the back yard birds found them as well and are also happy to munch away. They are very large cakes that hold up well even in rain and snow. They keep the birds busy and happy. Highly recommend!
