Wonderful, realistic, descriptive characters.true to life crime scenes revealed. The back and forth of the characters, trying to guess the whole time" who done it". NC Lewis reels you in then blows your mind with reveal. A great read! Loved it......

I enjoyed the pace, the complexity of the plot and characters. Good the overall story. Recommended for a nice sit down with a cup of tea.

The mystery was good, the characters were interesting. The ending was a disappoint. No explanation or indication and none of the suspects were the guilty. Suddenly Finella Sallow is sitting with one of the characters and it is the murderer of both victims. No reason before or after as to how she knew this was the murderer.

This is my first book by this author and I immediately purchased the second when I finished. A very suspenseful story unfolding at the right pace and plenty of red herrings...my favorite! I didn't solve this mystery before I finished so, what's not to like? Good characters and Fenella is the kind of detective you would want on a case. Looking forward to more!

This was a fun read with good character development and an interesting plot. So much so that it seemed to end too soon! I will be reading more of this series.

Fast paced and full of twists and turns. I enjoyed the very realistic and likable characters. You think you have got it figured out when you are hit with another twist. I never saw the ending coming!

This is a new author for me. Pretty good. Interesting characters. Good ending leading straight into the next book. One to follow.

I dont usually read books about women detectives but this was an Amazon recommendation and Kindle unlimited so nothing to lose.It was an entertaining read with many threads woven into the story. Keeps you guessing until the end.The complex lives of the characters was interesting but I'd have been keen to see how the Earp situation turned out.I'm also never happy with the 'nasty boss v hardworking detective' scenario. It's been overdone and although I've worked for bullies I've never encountered any like Jeffrey especially in a public sector where trade union representation is very strong.Neither can local councillors exert such pressure on the police. The regional Police and Crime Commissioners are not in charge of procedural police activity, either, so don't have power over officers and their police duties.All in all I enjoyed it and the surprising ending encourages me to read book 2.
