An important symbol in Japanese culture, cranes represent longevity and good fortune. Traditionally, brides must fold 1,000 paper origami cranes to learn patience. Also, it is said that if 1,000 cranes are folded your dream will come true. A kimono is a long robe that is widely viewed as the national costume of Japan. There are many different kinds of kimono and they are used for various purposes. For example, the Chokochokogi kimono is used for "going here and there." Young women in coming-of-age ceremonies wear a long-sleeved kimono referred to as a Furisode. Many kimonos are beautifully individual works of art, thought to reflect the soul of the Japanese people.
