Some say that to embrace one's greatest talent is to make the world a better place. Others see a grown man spinning a twelve-foot hula hoop and snicker about trivial obsessions. Breaking world records is a mysteriously seductive tradition, alternately inspiring, reckless, and bizarre. Follow a joggler, a grape catcher, and a man who cycles nowhere as they battle the odds - and their respective nemeses - in pursuit of global dominance. Since when is it trivial to dream?

An amazing documentary of a basic human desire to succeed
Records were made to be broken, and this movie highlights just how far people will go to prove they are the best in the world at something. It highlights the very basic human instinct to achieve something no one has accomplished before. The movie uses seemingly average human examples and shows how this desire drives them to go well beyond what most of us would be willing to endure just to have their name in the world renowned book of Guiness World Records. These wonderfully constructed stories somehow accomplish making the viewer both empathetic to their obsessions, yet at the same time inspired by their will to accomplish their goals.

equally comical and touching
i saw this doc at a festival in madison, wisconsin, and happily joined the crowd in a standing ovation. the subjects are varied, ranging from slightly deranged to wholly endearing, but i cheered for each and every one. competition docs seem increasingly common, but this one stands out, given that to set a guinness world record, one essentially competes against the planet's entire population. definitely on par with MAKE BELIEVE and KING OF KONG - and a good lesson in successful filmmaking on a budget. the director said it took him five years. hoping the next one comes sooner!

Very very entertaining
From start to finish you are treated to a cast of characters that offer a real slice of the human psyche and spirit. Humanity at its most clever and most poignant. Fingerhut really gives you personal insight into these people without getting in the way or judging. His cinema photography is up close and yet provides a view of the total persona. Funny where it is appropriate, serious when it needs to be and touching in all the right paces.A great movie for the family to watch and then talk about and then watch again. Not overdone. Just right.

A fun look at the crazy few who go after bizarre world records
A great insight into the lives and minds of those devoted, crazy few who go after bizarre world records. From the joggler, to the grape catchers, to the stationary cyclists... This is a really interesting dive into the commitment and perseverance it takes to achieve world records. The motivation and competition that Fingerhut captures is fun to watch! It's a clever movie. These real people are likable yet crazy, weird but familiar. You'll really enjoy this movie. I love documentaries and this one did not disappoint. Rent this. Watch it with the family or for date night. 9 out 10 from me.

Wonderfully idiotic and inspirational
This peek into the subculture of record breakers and wannabe record breakers is a blast. The three main stories are all compelling in their own way and the director does a great job of touching on the feats of several other bizarre and brilliant characters throughout the film. While you may shake your head at the aspirations of some of these people, you have to admire the drive and perseverance they demonstrate as they pursue their goals.

Fantastic!
This film runs the gamut of emotions. At times you feel embarrassed for the record-breakers, supportive of them, touched by their humanity and just plain entertained by their antics.Expertly executed and terribly entertaining, you lose yourself in this poignant documentary. This is a wonderful film and great for the whole family! Watch it!
