THIS COULD BE THE SCI FI BOOK OF THE YEAR!
Incredibly vivid character development and a genuinely intriguing story on a genre that has a lot of "android" themes. It will NOT be a disappointment. Must read. I hope this becomes a movie one day. That would be pretty awesome.

Gay robots? I'm in!
Such a refreshing, unique take on and an A.I. story that I actually read slower through the last third of the book because I didn't want it to end. Simon Curtis was born to write and everyone was born to read his books. This guy is stupid smart, too. Made my brain hurt in the best way. And - gay robots! Can't wait to read the sequel!

Adventurous fun read!
This book felt like it had a life force of its own-it kept calling out to me, demanding to be read. Now I know why-it was a beautiful and adventurous distraction from reality.. I was able to visualize everything that took place in Boy Robot to the point I felt frightened and fearful for the characters. Like Isaak, I am now left with questions as to what will happen next. Simon Curtis, your book was well written and I feel honored to have experienced your vision and creativity. Thank you for gifting the world with your prose :-D

Basically everything you’d want in a new world
The amount of care and detail given to the cgaracters and world building is amazing. The story moves at a strong pace without sacrificing any of the action or fun readers are looking for in this series.Simon Curtis clearly had fun, especially when discussing how the weapons and powers in this workd work. For some readers, the darkness of the struggles that some robot characters may be tough to handle, but it’s worth it on the other side.

Kudos
This review is also on [...] (with GIFs)Okay so the goodreads description at first seemed to be really short to me but got me excited regardless, and now that I have finished the book I realized that that actually does sum up the bookI must give a huge kudos to the author for writing such a wide variety of characters with unique ways of how they find out what they were, or rather that something was different about them. The stories in this book can be quite graphic though, has a bunch of hard scenes whether it be by physical harshness or emotional.I loved that this book included a transgender girl and both accepting family members and not so accepting family members, making the book more realistic on that aspect. That unfortunately not everyone can be accepting. The books main character is also from the LGBTQ community, so again, yay for uniqueness versus other , or rather MOST popular young adult books. The drama in the book is good however it could get a bit confusing because there was just SO much going on all around and so freaking fast! It was just like a load of information being thrown at you left and right as you where only just understanding what happened like 10 pages ago, Then again it adds to the characters feelings about the whole thing, how confusing it must've all been for him although he did seem to take it rather well considering everything that was happening."Valeria, you're saying a bunch of positive things, why the rating if it looks like you could've given it a 5 out of 5?"Well when I say there is a lot of information I mean it but there is also alot of information that was left out purposely and could get irritating. I understand that it is for sake of the plot but when the characters around Isaak, the main character, simply kept telling him he was special and important and not saying why even after demonstrating his powers was just too much for me. I mean they tell him he is the key to everything and he is special and powerful but he is still confused about what he even is. Clearly he is what will potentially bring out the organization that pursued them, just like all great young adult series, but we were left just as confused if not more so than the main character. Now, a great deal of Young Adult books have a love interest of sorts.WHAT IS GOING ON I MEAN SERIOUSLY! Towards the end there is a scene that just made my confusion worse about 3 particular people >.> I got whiplash from that scene

Art of Storytelling
Just a great novel. Some books hold good stories. Some books tell stories well. This book, by this author, combines the story and the telling into an experience.Don't miss out.

... and read a book and I sure picked a good one to get back into it
It's been a hot minute since I sat down and read a book and I sure picked a good one to get back into it. This novel moved me and really made me feel something beyond just being totally engrossed in the story and made an impression on me. If you're a fan of sci-fi with some hints of future dystopia that gets dark at times and a healthy dash of LGBT characters and issues I highly recommend taking a crack at this. Cannot wait to read the second installment

Vivid depictions of misunderstood youth and the exciting and hazardous adventures they must endure to save themselves and prove that we are all part of humanity. Simon Curtis is an imaginative and brilliant writer who is able to absorb his readers into this perilous world filled with action, adventure and touchingly human experiences.

Unfortunately disappointing
This book was very frustrating! I was looking forward to read a young adult sci-fi novel with queer characters because I really liked the idea of the book which had potential. Here are the aspects I had a problem with:1) I personally didn't like the writing style. It seemed not homogenous: at times it is very lyrical and stilted which then forms a contrast to the colloquial young adult style (this is my subjective impression).2) The story starts in media res (which is valid) but the protagonist remains a blur and could be substituted with just anyone which makes it hard to sympathise with him. The other characters also blur or are merely types (e.g. the pretty, sexy, seductive, arrogant guy).Isaak often seems to simply accept all circumstances and only sometimes asks questions at a much later point which to me is highly unrealistic3) Everytime the story gets going it is interrupted by a backstory of a person which might only have a short appearance later in the story or possibly only in the sequel. This often killed the suspense.4) The people in the back stories were often anonymous. I found this highly troubling because they suffered the most horrible tragedies (rape, child abuse, transphobia,...). Furthermore, listing one tragic fate after another isolated without any other life aspect reduces these characters to their tragic fate alone which is wrong!5) Being mistreated or belonging to the minority group of Robots apparently seems to justify to simply kill people (yes they might work for the bad guys but still)6) The ending seemed a bit overly constructed featuring a double twist
